The International Journal
Since 2008, the partnership with Borys Grinchenko Kyiv Metropolitan University has fostered a resilient scholarly exchange, highlighted by the annual Young Scholars Grinchenko – Seton International Journal. Published every year since 2020 despite the ongoing war, the electronic journal has featured the research of over thirty Seton Hall students, faculty and administrators. Each edition culminates in a virtual international conference hosted in Kyiv, providing a vital platform for global academic dialogue and reflection.

The Holocaust Commemoration
In support of New Jersey's mandated Holocaust curriculum, the Center annually hosts a survivor and a member of the NJ Holocaust Commission to engage with future educators and students. This initiative, featuring speakers like survivor Fran Malkin and Commission member and CGHR Visiting Scholar Igor Kotler, emphasizes the vital role of teachers in ensuring we "never forget." Open to the Seton Hall and Rutgers communities, the program provides direct access to NJ Department of Education resources for implementing these essential mandates.

The Seton Hall Center for Global Education's Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) Initiative
The COIL initiative fosters global citizenship through university-level collaboration on critical global education topics with partners in Ukraine at Borys Grinchenko Kyiv Metropolitan University. In addition, two conferences were organized in partnership with the School of Diplomacy and International Relations. This initiative integrated research and international conference presentations to promote scholarly exchange and cross-cultural engagement between scholars and teachers from around the country.

Programming & Initiatives - Past

The Promises and Perils of Diversity in Education Initiative
The Promises and Perils of Diversity in Education Initiative (2018-2023), a collaboration between Rutgers Center for the Study of Genocide and Human Rights and Seton Hall’s The Center for Global Education and the Secondary Education Program, explores the complex challenges of 21st-century education. This interdisciplinary group of educators met monthly to bridge research and practice, fostering global partnerships and innovative programs. By engaging in difficult dialogues, PPDI transformed collaborative spaces into inclusive, impactful learning environments.

Deliberating in a Democracy (DID)
The DID project facilitated (2007-2010) vital cross-cultural exchange and mutual understanding through Structured Academic Controversy. By engaging in these global dialogues, high school students in New Jersey in partnership with educators and high school students in Ukraine collaborated to develop the critical empathy and deliberative skills necessary to navigate complex global challenges and foster peaceful democratic discourse across borders.

A Talk to Teachers
"A Talk to Teachers" (James Baldwin 2024 project) is a yearlong collaboration between the Seton Hall Center for Global Education and Newark schools district invited Newark high school students to explore urban educational expectations through James Baldwin’s "A Talk to Teachers" and integrated financial literacy lessons. Hosted in partnership with the Stillman School of Business and the Secondary Education Program, the program fostered essential dialogue on student expectations and equity, bridging the humanities and professional development to empower the next generation of leaders.

Crossing Borders
"Crossing Borders" Project (2016-2020) is an elementary and secondary partnership connected the Bernardsville School District in New Jersey with a residential Catholic school (St. Patrick’s) intentionally enrolling Muslim students (half of the enrollment) in Nigeria's Boko Haram region to foster global citizenship and cultures of peace. Operating without digital tools, students exchanged perspectives through recorded media and papers, with a Seton Hall educator traveling between sites to facilitate this vital crosscultural dialogue.
