About the Center

The Center was launched in 2007 within the Department of Educational Studies in the former College of Education and Human Services (now the College of Human Development, Culture, and Media). The co-directors are James Daly (Department of Educational Studies, Seton Hall), Nela Navarro (Center for the Study of Genocide and Human Rights, Rutgers University), and Maribel Roman (Seton Hall alum, Cofounder and Compliance Officer Florida Mentoring Network).

The call for schools to prepare students for life in an interconnected globalized world has been strongly articulated for years. The Center seeks to support such efforts. The range of skills, dispositions and experiences focused on such preparation is daunting. Towards that end, the Center has created and continues in a robust relationship with the Borys Grinchenko Kyiv Metropolitan University in Ukraine. It supports new University initiatives with the Ukrainian Catholic University in Lviv, Ukraine.

Programs and activities are sponsored by and supported by the Center, with an audience including elementary, and secondary education students.

The Mission

The Global Education Mission

Our primary mission is to advance knowledge of global issues, build skills and develop dispositions among domestic and international educators to promote global civic competence. Through our partnership with the Center for the Study of Genocide and Human Rights at Rutgers University we support educational research for social impact by fostering cross-border collaborations. Grounded in critical pedagogy, we empower a global network of pre-K through university educators and students to investigate divergent perspectives, engage in transformative dialogue and co-create knowledge that drives positive, sustainable change.

The initial efforts of the Center for Global Education are captured in this video:
