One College, One Exhibition
About OCOE
One College, One Exhibition (OCOE) is a signature initiative of Seton Hall University’s
College of Human Development, Culture, and Media (CHDCM). OCOE unifies our academic
community through collective engagement with a curated art exhibition. Given the importance
of expression in the story of human development and culture, this initiative celebrates
art as a throughline connecting and embodying the values of our College, our people
and our surrounding community. To that end, every other year the CHDCM will identify
an art exhibition that will serve as the springboard for a host of events, performances,
colloquia, symposia and creative endeavors on and beyond the University's campus—all
of which engage the exhibition from the many perspectives and fields that comprise
our One College.
About OCOE 2025
For our inaugural event, we are featuring Americans Who Tell the Truth, the portrait series created by award-winning artist, Robert Shetterly. The portraits and their theme, according to AWTT, “illuminate the ongoing struggle to realize America’s democratic ideals and model the commitment to act for the common good.”
This art exhibition aligns strongly with Seton Hall’s historic Catholic identity and mission, especially the values at the root of the University’s new Strategic Plan:
- Faith and Hope
- Trust and Integrity
- Courage and Curiosity
- Compassion and Service
- Love and Action
- Purpose and Resiliency
As an embodiment of the values at the heart of Seton Hall’s Catholic mission and of the College, fifty of the artist’s portraits—chosen by the CHDCM community—will be on display, both on campus and at the South Orange Performing Arts Center (SOPAC) during the month of October, 2025. OCOE will be formally unveiled on October 8, 2025, with our choir’s performance of a CHDCM-commissioned composition, “Truth Be Told,” with music by Robert S. Cohen and text by Ronald W. Cadmus. Throughout the remainder of the month, we will be hosting events large and small from across the CHDCM to celebrate and engage the works, ideas and Americans who persevere, struggle and sacrifice to tell the truth.
