Taking Care and Remaining Vigilant: A Message from Student Services and Student Government Association - Seton Hall University

Dear Pirates,

We are deeply saddened by the tragic loss of Seton Hall student Nidhi Rana and her friend Ayush Rana. Nidhi and Ayush were lost in last week’s storm and floodwaters. As a new student, Nidhi was involved and engaged in the campus community, participating in the Division of Volunteer Efforts (DOVE) and other campus activities.

Campus Ministry and DOVE will announce information regarding a Service of Remembrance and Hope at the appropriate time after consulting with Nidhi’s family. Our thoughts and prayers go out to them during this very difficult time. Students are encouraged to contact Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) at (973) 761-9500 and Campus Ministry (973) 761-9545 for additional support.

There’s still time to register for our upcoming flu/COVID-19 clinics for the South Orange Campus on September 28 and October 19. Please continue to check our Health Intervention and Communication Team (HICT) page for the most up-to-date information.

As noted in the HICT communication yesterday, we have experienced a rise in positive COVID-19 cases among our students, particularly on the South Orange campus. Thankfully, most students testing positive are vaccinated but mildly symptomatic – an indication of vaccine effectiveness.

If cases continue to rise, we may need to implement some of the “pivot” plans we have developed for the South Orange campus. These could include temporarily moving to remote instruction, broadening the indoor mask mandate, moving activities outdoors, and rescheduling other events.

Pirates, this is our time to remain vigilant and prepared. We need to protect members of our population who may be vulnerable or immunocompromised.

We ask that you take these precautionary measures so that we can continue to enjoy a safe Fall Semester.

  • Continue to wear a mask that covers your nose and mouth and is secure under your chin. Masks are required in all indoor, nonresidential, on-campus University settings, except when alone or dining. Wearing a mask indoors is also recommended off-campus.
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.
  • When possible, minimize large group indoor gatherings.
  • Monitor your health. If you are experiencing symptoms, contact Health Services at (973) 761-9175.

If you have questions, comments, or suggestions, please contact the HICT.

Please know that the health and safety of our entire University community is of utmost importance. We continue to move, Hazard Zet Forward, through 2021. We are in this together. Please continue to take care of yourself and each other. Go Pirates!

All the best,

Monica Burnette, Ph.D.
