PRNEWS' Education A-List Again Recognizes Seton Hall's Public Relations Programs

Public relations For the second year in a row, Seton Hall University's public relations programs within the College of Communication and the Arts were named to PRNEWS' 2022 Education A-list. The list spotlights outstanding 40 public and private higher education institutions that are advancing the careers of public relations and communication professionals in the U.S.

Listed alongside top universities such as Boston, George Washington, Georgetown, Northeastern and NYU, the College's B.A. in Public Relations program is one of the few undergraduate PR programs nationwide to be certified by the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA). As part of this program, students learn the historical foundations and evolution of the discipline to truthfully, accurately and fairly apply a four-step public relations process to create, implement and assess a variety of PR campaigns and tactics. Students graduate with a strong ability to apply critical coursework to inform data-driven decision making across a variety of global and diverse audiences.

"With a solid theoretical foundation and a mission to develop future-focused, responsible public relations professionals, our Public Relations coursework and co-curricular opportunities are application-based and uniquely, and quickly, integrate options for experiential learning for all students," noted Associate Dean Ryan Hudes, Ph.D. "Whether students participate in, or lead, our Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) chapter, present at the University's annual Petersheim Academic Exhibition, or participate in our Bateman National Case Study Competition Team, our public relations students are always engaged. Continuation as part of PRNEWS' Education A-list reaffirms our commitment to excellence in preparing future leaders in the field."

In addition, the College's M.A. in Communication program offers graduate students the opportunity to complete a sequence of coursework in public relations where students learn from faculty with extensive PR experience through courses like Global Perspectives and Reputation Management. The College also offers a graduate-level professional certificate in public relations, which gives students the opportunity to study advanced concepts, theories and methods related to the PR field. Upon completion of this 12-credit program, the credits can be applied toward an M.A. in Communication, once admitted.

Hudes added, "The quality of our public relations coursework for both undergraduate and graduate students continues to reflect on our accomplished faculty, including Kathryn Lancioni, M.S. and McKenna Schray, Ph.D. Extending beyond the classroom and as part of co-curricular and extra-curricular activities, our faculty's ongoing commitment to our students includes additional noteworthy initiatives such as the Litore Agency, our student-led strategic public relations and communications firm."

The list was compiled by the PRNEWS editorial staff by reviewing how applied programs prepare students for continued success in their existing jobs and along their future career paths, as well as any extracurricular offerings beyond the classroom, such as internships. Consideration was given to schools with faculty who have real-world experience and that continue to evolve their program offerings to reflect the changing nature of the field of communication and ensure students learn about emerging trends.
