Eugenia Providence, MBA, Senior Director of College Operations for the College of Arts and Sciences
The College of Arts and Sciences has launched a new Social Sciences Hub in Jubilee Hall, Room 570, creating a central location for students across the social sciences to access information, support and opportunities.
The Hub is designed to function as a one-stop resource center for students studying disciplines within the social sciences. Rather than simply serving as a renovated space, the Hub provides a place where students can speak with staff, receive guidance on course registration, learn about professors’ office hours and explore opportunities such as programs, student organizations, internships and other academic or professional experiences.
The concept for the Hub was developed by Eugenia Providence, M.B.A., senior director of College Operations for the College of Arts and Sciences, who observed that while social science fields share a common mission -understanding and improving the human condition - their departments are often scattered across campus. As a result, students sometimes struggle to find information, support or a welcoming place to ask questions. The Social Sciences Hub was created to address this gap by bringing resources and community together in one dedicated location.
“This space represents a new way of thinking about how we serve our students,” Providence said. “The Social Sciences Hub is only one of several innovations we are developing within the College. Many more initiatives are on the horizon, all with the goal of improving the student experience and ensuring that every student knows where they belong and where they can turn for support.”
Marisol Garcia, the inaugural Program Manager for the Social Sciences
The Hub is supported by Marisol Garcia, the inaugural program manager for the Social Sciences, who works directly with students and will develop programming, resources and initiatives to strengthen engagement across social science disciplines. Garcia has already become a valued addition to the College and is focused on supporting students as they navigate their academic experiences.
“As the Program Manager for the Social Sciences Unit, housed within the Social Sciences Hub, my main goal is to support students as they navigate their journey in academia,” Garcia said. “I look forward to acting as liaison between them and processes at Seton Hall University.”
Garcia also emphasized the welcoming environment the space aims to create for students across disciplines. “I envision this hub as a warm, inviting space for all to gather; [it’s] where inquisitiveness is welcome and joy is required.”
The Social Sciences Hub represents one of several innovations introduced within the College of Arts and Sciences to improve the student experience. As the College continues to expand student-centered initiatives, the Hub serves as an important step toward building stronger community, clearer access to information and greater support for students pursuing studies in the social sciences.
Providence also acknowledged the individuals and teams who helped make the Hub possible, giving a special thank you to Dean Farina, Sheila Riley, Blake Knell, Lizi Shcherbakovi, Esha Shiwprashad and University Facilities. Blake, Lizi and Esha are her student workers who were instrumental in making the Hub a reality.
