Fall 2020 Semester Update for Students

We are excited to see you on campus or remotely for the start of the 2020-21 academic year!

As you've read in President Nyre's updated communication, we are ready to welcome you back with all health and safety protocols in place. As students return to campus, the Division of Student Services remains committed to providing a supportive and engaging student experience.

Please read the following information carefully. Additional information and reminders are outlined below.

All Students

  • The health and safety of our campus community is paramount. When students first arrive on campus, they will receive welcome packages that include protective masks and hand sanitizer. We require that all community members and visitors abide by the Seton Hall Pledge, which asks all of us to do our part to keep ourselves, each other, and our community members healthy and safe — it is our shared responsibility.

Instruction

  • The semester begins with most classes in remote instruction from August 24 - August 30, 2020.
  • HyFlex instruction will begin on August 31, 2020. Students who opted for the Hyflex model will be assigned a group letter (A or B) or group number (1, 2, or 3). Groups will rotate between meeting in-person and attending remotely. Before instruction begins, detailed class information and group rotation schedule will be accessible on PirateNet.
  • In order to reduce classroom and campus density, some courses have been converted to fully remote instruction. Students will receive a notification if their course(s) were converted to fully remote instruction.
  • Students who wish to amend their learning option can update their preference by completing the Hyflex survey no later than 5:00 p.m. ET on August 21, 2020.

Residential Students

  • All residential students must have a confirmed move-in time prior to arriving on campus. Move-in times are reserved through the eRezLife portal in PirateNet.
  • All residential students will be directed to the University's COVID-19 testing site when they arrive for Move-In (August 16-23). Students arriving from states on New Jersey's Travel Advisory list will be provided single-occupancy rooms for a 14-day self-quarantine. They will have access to campus services and supports. Details about the quarantine period are available here.
  • Throughout the semester, any student who is diagnosed with COVID-19 or exposed to someone diagnosed with COVID-19 should quarantine/isolate at home if possible. If that is not possible, the University has designated Ora Manor, an off-campus residential building, for short-term isolation and quarantine under strict restrictions.
  • No guests will be permitted in residence halls at this time while NJ remains in Stage 2.

Dining

  • Outdoor seating, mobile ordering, and "grab and go" options will highlight our dining model. Indoor dining capacity will be reduced to allow for appropriate physical distancing and to follow state guidelines.

Student Life and Engagement

  • From August 16-28, we are proud to offer our Weeks of Welcome or WOW -- several virtual and in-person activities and events to enhance student life and engagement. Our First 56 Days also provides additional ways that students can connect with fellow Pirates!

We thank you for your continued trust and patience. Please continue to review our FAQ page. You may also visit the Planning for Fall 2020 website for additional information and to submit feedback.
