Goals
French Language Program: By the fourth semester:
- Students will achieve (ACTFL Novice High or Intermediate Low) proficiency in listening, speaking, reading and writing.
- Students will expand their vocabulary in the areas of their studies and daily life; travel; and social issues, such as immigration and employment.
- Grammatical accuracy in writing and speaking will be developed through audio-visual materials online (Supersite WebSAM) and in-class exercises.
Major in French: Upon completing the BA degree with a major in French, students will:
- Demonstrate at least Intermediate-High ACTFL proficiency in listening, reading, writing and speaking (Language Proficiency).
- Interpret critically a wide range of discourses, including literary and non-literary texts, scholarly sources, films, and other media, taking account of factors such as audience, purpose, organization, discourse conventions, rhetorical elements, and linguistic features (Critical Interpretation).
- Engage with the diverse practices, products, and perspectives of the Francophone world, present and past (Cultural Literacy).
- Reflect meaningfully on the relationship between their college education and their future as in the workforce and as members of their communities (Post-College Preparedness).
