Student Health Insurance
All full-time students* (excluding those in online programs) are automatically enrolled in the student health insurance plan.
*Undergraduate: 12 credits/semester; Graduate: 9 credits/semester
Please note: The information below applies to the 2018-2019 school year, but can be used as an estimate for 2019-2020. Official information for 2019-2020 will be available Summer 2019.
If you are covered under another plan and would like to request an exemption, you must electronically submit a waiver form. This process can only be done online and deadlines apply. International students are not eligible to submit an insurance waiver. Please see below.
Undergraduate students: $1,692 (billed once in the fall semester only for 1 year of coverage)
Graduate students: $3,070 (billed once in the fall semester only for 1 year of coverage)
Medical students: $3,070 (billed once in the fall semester only for 1 year of coverage)
- Spring: Students automatically enrolled in the plan starting in the spring (e.g. those who were not full-time students in the fall), or those who were not enrolled in the plan in the fall but have a qualifying life event and now need coverage beginning in the spring, will be billed in the spring in the amount of $1,798 (graduate and medical students) or $994 (undergraduate students).
Undergraduate and Graduate Students: August 15, 2018 – August 14, 2019
Medical Students: July 1, 2018 – June 30, 2019
- Spring: Students automatically enrolled in the plan starting in the spring (i.e. those who were not enrolled in the plan in the fall) will be covered January 14, 2019 – August 14, 2019 (undergraduate and graduate) or January 1, 2019 - June 30, 2019 (medical).

Undergraduate and Graduate Students: September 4, 2018

- Students who submit a waiver in the fall will not be required to submit a waiver in the spring; a waiver is valid until the beginning of the next policy period.
- Spring: Only students automatically enrolled in the plan starting in the spring (e.g. those who were not full-time students in the fall) will be offered a spring waiver deadline of January 23, 2019. A waiver is valid until the beginning of the next policy period. Questions about spring waivers can be sent to StudentServices@shu.edu.
*The Insurance Waiver form is not compatible with Firefox. Please use IE or Chrome.
New Undergraduate Students (Fall only): Log in to PirateNet, click on Pirate Adventure icon, and scroll down to "Health Services."
All Other Students: Log in to PirateNet, click on the SHU Portal, and click on the Profile & Finances tab. Link to Health Insurance Waiver is in the "Bursar Account" channel.
Part-time students in their final semester are eligible for coverage. If you are a part-time student in your final semester and would like to request insurance coverage, please complete the Insurance Request Form. Directions for submission are on the form.
