Email Communications

Email Communications

University Relations serves as the central unit that coordinates and manages all primary email communications across campus. From weekly newsletters and all-campus broadcasts to standalone messages, our team helps ensure email communications are clear, strategic and aligned with university goals — and reach the right audience at the right time.

In line with the Executive Communication Schedule, University Relations collaborates with areas throughout the University to distribute weekly communications and targeted outreach across all mediums.

Streamlined Email Strategy: Why Fewer, Less Emails Work Better

Email is a primary outreach tool in our community, but too many standalone emails can overwhelm inboxes and lower engagement. Be honest, are you ever really at 0 unread emails?

Data reveals that sending more email does not necessarily lead to better engagement. Open rates drop as email volume increases.

To address this, Seton Hall has adopted the Executive and Premier Communications Schedule, a streamlined schedule to better ensure messages are open and read.

We encourage all areas to familiarize themselves with the schedule and promote their events through these scheduled communications, whenever possible.

Key Focus Areas - What we Do

Broadcast Emails

Campus-wide broadcasts are used for delivering important or time-sensitive information to all students, faculty and staff. These emails typically cover topics that require immediate attention or provide updates critical to the University's operations.

E-newsletters

Our team supports various schools and colleges, administrative and academic units and other offices in producing e-newsletters that are distributed to faculty, students and staff on a regular basis. These e-newsletters serve as a key channel for sharing important updates, event information and area-specific news.

Our team assists in creating engaging newsletters that reflect the unique voice and goals of each area, while maintaining consistency with the Seton Hall brand.

Seton Hall's longest running newsletter, Inside the Hall is a weekly compilation of recently published news stories and upcoming events distributed to the entire University community Monday mornings at 8 a.m.

This newsletter is managed directly by University Relations, helping to keep students, faculty, staff and administrators informed of the latest news, events and happenings across Seton Hall.

Interested in including a story or event in Inside the Hall? Submit the news story or calendar event planners for publication on our website and automatic inclusion in next Inside the Hall edition.

Email Platform Management and Integration

Managing all of these large-scale email communications requires robust technology. Our team oversees the integration of our email marketing tool, Emma, with the University's CRM and data systems. This ensures a seamless experience for both users and recipient while aligning with modern technology and data management practices.

For campus partners frequently engaging in email communication to their respective internal audience such as students and administrators/faculty, we also offer training and resources on the email tools available. This includes essential services like template development and list set-up, to ensure all messages are consistent with the University's style, brand and systems.
