Student Services Partners with Parents and Guardians during Seton Hall Weekend
Thursday, October 20, 2022
On October 14, the Division of Student Services collaborated with University Advancement and campus partners to host a Meet and Mingle Welcome Breakfast and Resource Fair in Bethany Hall to welcome parents and guardians to Seton Hall Weekend.
During the presentation, the Vice President of Student Services, Dr. Monica Burnette, shared how the main areas of Academic Success, Campus Inclusion & Community, Student Engagement, Business Affairs, and Information Technology, Student Wellness & Support, and Public Safety & Security support students' academic and social growth and success in a diverse, dynamic, holistic, inclusive, and supportive campus community.
Dr. Burnette shared a new video titled "Sending your Students to College," with student success tips for parents and guardians from President Nyre, Provost Passerini, and Vice President Burnette. Some suggestions include encouraging students to engage in campus events, seek balance in their academic and social life, and ask for help early and often.
Dr. Burnette also shared how the division leads in several areas of the University's Strategic Plan, Harvest our Treasures. Goal 3 aims to create an equitable and consistent premier student experience, by enhancing student support and retention, and preparing students to be impactful global citizens. Goal 4 aims to further cultivate and nurture a trusting and collaborative Seton Hall community that educates and empowers all its members to advance equity, inclusion, and social justice on campus and in the wider world. The division also collaborates with the Health Intervention Communication Team (HICT), which continues to meet regularly to review the latest public and University health statistics along with government guidance.
Parents and guardians were also encouraged to participate as partners in their student's educational journey. Dr. Burnette shared the parent website, which includes an overview video of Student Services and the Parent Toolkit. Parents and guardians can also share their thoughts or suggestions in the Student Services Suggestion Box, email [email protected], and follow Student Services on social media @hallstudents or @setonhall.
After the presentation, several representatives from the Division of Student Services and campus partners including Counseling and Psychological Services, Center for Academic Success (CAS), Office of Student Engagement (OSE), DOVE, Public Safety & Security, Parking Services, Career Center, Housing and Residence Life, Health Services, Academic Resource Center, Parking Services, Gen 1, Educational Opportunity Program, and RISE, provided valuable information and resources to parents and guardians. Attendees participated in a scavenger hunt activity for a chance to win Seton Hall themed prizes.
To stay connected, Seton Hall families are invited to join virtual fall 2022 Coffee and Conversation meetings to network, ask questions, and learn more about what's happening at the University. Upcoming sessions include Student Engagement, Campus Inclusion & Community, and Wellness & Support.
