Academic Advising Preparation

Audit/Advising Worksheet:

The degree audit, also known as the advising worksheet, offers details of the courses you have taken, grades and credits earned, and your GPA. It also identifies your major, any minors or concentrations you may have, the requirements you have met and the requirements you still need to meet.

To access your audit, please follow the following instructions:

  • Log onto PirateNet
  • Click SHU Portal
  • Go to the Academics Tab
  • Go to Student Records
  • Click Advising Worksheet — Degree Requirements

Look at unofficial transcripts and your advising worksheet:

  • What have you completed?
  • What do you still need to complete?
  • How has your GPA changed over the semesters? Why?
  • What is the difference between your attempted and completed classes?
  • Do you have any holds?
  • Have a skeleton schedule and make sure you know when classes are offered.

Ask the following questions:

  • What is the GPA requirement of my intended major?
  • What is my four year plan? Click here to download a Four Year Plan Worksheet
  • What classes are requirements for my major and/or school?
  • What is the usual workload for my courses?
  • How well do students generally do in these courses?
  • How are the classes structured?
  • How do the individual facility members teach?
  • How are these courses related to my eventual career?

During the meeting:

  • Be engaged.
  • Ask questions.
  • Take notes.
  • Become familiar with the content of the classes for which you are registering.
  • Bring your four year plan.
