Seton Hall University's public relations programs within the College of Communication and the Arts were recently named to PRNEWS' 2021 Education A-list. The list spotlights the top 35 public and private higher education institutions advancing the careers of public relations and communication professionals in the U.S.
Listed alongside top universities such as Boston, Columbia, George Washington, Johns Hopkins, Rutgers and Syracuse, the College's B.A. in Public Relations program is one of the few undergraduate PR programs nationwide to be certified by the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA). As part of this program, students learn the historical foundations and evolution of the discipline to truthfully, accurately and fairly apply a four-step public relations process to create, implement and assess a variety of PR campaigns and tactics. Students graduate with a strong ability to apply critical coursework to inform data-driven decision making across a variety of global and diverse audiences.
"Rooted in theory and designed to develop future-focused, responsible public relations professionals, our coursework is application-based and uniquely integrates an array of opportunities for experiential learning as soon as a student initially enrolls," noted Assistant Dean Ryan Hudes, Ph.D. "Whether it be participation in or leadership of our Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) chapter, presentation at the University's annual Petersheim Academic Exhibition, or inclusion in our Bateman National Case Study Competition Team, our public relations students are always engaged and setting the standard for leadership. Being named to PRNEWS' Education A-list reaffirms our commitment to excellence in preparing future leaders in the field."
In addition, the College's graduate-level professional certificate in public relations, which gives students the opportunity to study advanced concepts, theories and methods related to the PR field. Upon completion of this 12-credit program, the credits can be applied toward an M.A. in Communication, once admitted.
Hudes added, "The quality of our public relations coursework for both undergraduate and graduate students is a testament to our accomplished faculty, including Kathryn Lancioni, M.S. and McKenna Schray, Ph.D. Extending beyond the classroom, our faculty's collective dedication to our students includes additional standout initiatives such as the Litore Agency, our student-led strategic public relations and communications firm."
The list was compiled by PRNEWS by reviewing how applied programs prepare students for continued success in their existing jobs and along their future career paths. Consideration was given to schools that continue to evolve their program offerings to reflect the changing nature of the field of communication and ensure students learn about emerging trends, as well as offer extracurricular offerings beyond the classroom.
