Seton Hall Professor is Honored for Distinguished Service

Peggy Brady-Amoon, Ph.D. 

Peggy Brady-Amoon, Ph.D., a professor in the Department of Professional Psychology and Family Therapy, received a Distinguished Service Award and was named a Distinguished Fellow by the New York State Psychological Association.

NYSPA, which is the oldest state psychological association in the nation, recognized Brady-Amoon during its recent convention in Glens Falls, New York.

In addition to the awards ceremony, the weekend event on June 2 – 4, included presentations, posters, and networking. “It is truly an honor to recognized by my state professional association,” Brady-Amoon said. “I encourage colleagues and students to get involved with relevant professional associations at the level (local, state, national, and/or international) that works for you. It's a joy to work with dedicated professionals at and beyond Seton Hall”.

Professor Brady-Amoon is also a Fellow of the American Psychological Association (APA) through two divisions: The Society of Counseling Psychology and the Society for the Teaching of Psychology.

In addition to her recent recognition by the NYSPA, Brady-Amoon delivered the keynote addressed, based on her newly published book Building Your Career in Psychology, at a panel on Careers in Applied Psychology. She shared a similar message at the annual Psi Chi induction ceremony at Fordham University’s Lincoln Center campus.

In her keynote address, Brady-Amoon encouraged listeners to consider psychology as part of their academic and career endeavors. She said:

"Psychology, even a course or two, is an excellent foundation for career decision-making, planning, and numerous career possibilities. People, at any age, can build a career in psychology or related field with a bachelor’s, master’s or doctoral degree. She also gave an overview of ways to use psychology to inform career and life decision-making and management and encouraged attendees to network and use their resources."

The panel was sponsored by Fordham University, the Manhattan Psychological Association, and the New York chapter of the Society for the Psychological Study of Social Issues (SPSSI-NY). Brady-Amoon received a medal at this induction ceremony commemorating her receipt of the Fordham University Psi Chi Outstanding Alumna Award in 2009.

The Department of Professional Psychology and Family Therapy offers graduate degree and certificate programs in Applied Behavior Analysis, Counseling, Counseling Psychology, Professional Counseling, Psychological Studies, School Counseling, School Psychology, and Sports Psychology.
