In January 2020, the Office of the President announced that the Board of Regents recently approved funding for significant equipment upgrades to the campus television studio. These significant upgrades will benefit the entire University community. The television studio is housed in the College of Communication and the Arts, and is a vital component in the curriculum of the Visual and Sound Media program as well as home to extracurricular organizations like Pirate TV.

"The University's commitment to the shared facility is the culmination of concentrated administrative and faculty efforts, as well as program and student growth," said Dean Deirdre Yates, M.F.A. "The value and benefit of high-quality equipment elevates our student experience and furthers our outreach potential to the broader community. The planned upgrades offer the chance for the College to expand our curricular offerings, renew our competitive edge, foster greater student career success, pursue partnerships, and much more."

The improved television studio will have full HD and live-streaming capabilities, providing benefits to the University community in a variety of ways. The improvements allow for reinvigorated curriculum and enhanced experiential learning, benefitting current students and attracting new ones. State-of-the-art technology will foster the ability to integrate media technology into many different majors as well as to provide opportunities for multidisciplinary collaboration. Additionally, cultural programming across the University can benefit from the new ability to record, produce, stream and archive performances.

With the upgraded studio's ability to live-stream Pirate Sports Network's produced sporting events remotely, this new space also fosters further integration with Athletics. Additionally, it opens up a pipeline for professional programming for the Big East Network.

Outside of the University community, the new studio provides the potential development of external partnerships with local news outlets, the Archdiocese of Newark and local businesses.

Because of Seton Hall University's close proximity to New York City, students frequently take advantage of internship positions with major media outlets as well as networking opportunities with alumni in professional media organizations. Students preparing for careers in television, sports media, film and broadcasting will graduate with first-hand knowledge and experience working with advanced technology, ensuring solid employment preparation in the New York City area and beyond.

Preliminary work in the studio is underway, with an expectation that the major upgrades will be installed during the summer months and completed at the start of the Fall 2020 semester.
