Winter Session, Spring Registration, COVID Alert NJ and More - Seton Hall University
Thursday, October 15, 2020
News throughout the state and nation report that COVID-19 cases continue to rise. Although not a surprise, given the expansion of permitted activities and approach of cooler weather, it is a constant reminder that the virus continues to affect all of us.
The local communities of South Orange and Maplewood have also noted increased cases in each of their towns, followed by reminders from local officials that good hygiene continues to be vitally important. As noted in last week's HICT message, the Maplewood Board of Health issued an emergency resolution to mandate mask-wearing at all times in Maplewood Village.
Perhaps an even more tangible reminder is the news of super-spreader events at other area colleges, causing them to move to all-remote instruction and learning. House parties and large indoor gatherings were identified as the drivers of the outbreaks.
Please use such news as a reminder to each of us that the tenets of the Seton Hall Pledge : mask-wearing , social distancing, hand washing – are all proven keys to keeping each of us, and those around us, safe and healthy. Remember to use #CampusClear every day, whether coming to campus or not.
Winter Session and Spring 2021 Registration
On Tuesday, Dr. Passerini provided an update about this year's Winter Session and information about spring 2021 registration. Assuming State of New Jersey reopening guidance remains unchanged, Seton Hall will continue to use the HyFlex teaching model during the spring 2021 semester as we operate in a lower-density environment. We look forward with hope and great anticipation to the day when the public health situation and government guidance permit us to fully and completely welcome the entire Seton Hall community back to all of our campuses.
COVID Alert NJ
As noted last week, the State of New Jersey announced the launch of COVID Alert NJ, an exposure notification app. The State asks that students, faculty, staff, and administrators download and use COVID Alert NJ, which is available for free on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store . You may visit https://covid19.nj.gov/pages/app or contact [email protected] to learn more. This app does not replace #CampusClear but is a separate tool administered by the State of New Jersey.
Flu Shots Still Available
It is not too late to get vaccinated for the upcoming flu season. Students who missed the University's free clinics may still get a flu shot by contacting Health Services at (973) 761-9175 to set an appointment. Employees and students are reminded that most pharmacies also provide flu shots. To learn more about protecting yourself from the flu, the State of New Jersey provides valuable information at https://powertoprotectnj.org/
