Update Regarding Use of Masks Indoors

As noted in last week's HICT update, Governor Murphy signed Executive Order No. 243 which states that, effective at 6:00 a.m. ET on Friday, June 4, 2021:

…employers, as defined in Executive Order No. 192 (2020), in workplaces that are not open to the public per Executive Order No. 242 (2021) are not mandated to require employees to wear face masks or social distance at the worksite where the employee provides proof that they are fully vaccinated, as defined by the CDC, and in accordance with federal and State law. Where an employer is unable to determine the individual’s vaccination status or the individual is not fully vaccinated, employers must continue to require those employees to wear masks and practice social distancing in indoor spaces…

Therefore, consistent with NJEO No. 243 and NJEO No. 242:

Faculty, students, staff, and administrators who have reported through the Confidential Vaccine Declaration that they are fully vaccinated are not required to wear a mask or practice social distancing indoors on each campus and at indoor, off-campus University activities. However, they are welcome to wear a mask if they choose.

Faculty, students, staff, and administrators who have not reported on the Confidential Vaccine Declaration, or have reported being less than fully vaccinated, or reported they are seeking an exemption, must wear a mask indoors on each campus and at indoor, off-campus University activities.

Guests, visitors, vendors and others who are not fully vaccinated are required to wear a mask indoors on each campus and at indoor, off-campus University activities. Those who are fully vaccinated are welcome to wear a mask if they choose.

Enforcement is via the honor code. We expect you will be truthful in your reporting and activities.

We are particularly pleased to see, through the Confidential Vaccine Declaration, that almost 90% of our community is already fully or partially vaccinated or plans to be so. This is from the 81.1% who have completed the required Declaration. We are grateful for your responsiveness. Thank you for your cooperation in keeping our community safe and healthy.

Please remember to keep a mask with you at all times as individual locations you visit off-campus may have their own requirements or requests.

We will continue to keep you updated through future HICT announcements. If you have questions, please contact the HICT.

Sincerely,

Shawna Cooper-Gibson, Ed.D.
