Anti-Hazing Resources for Faculty and Administrators
As trusted mentors and leaders, Seton Hall faculty, administrators and employees play a vital role in fostering a safe and inclusive campus culture. You are uniquely positioned to serve as allies to students by promoting awareness, modeling respectful behavior and addressing concerns related to hazing.
Be proactive:
Educate yourself on the signs of hazing, create open lines of communication with students and encourage them to report any behaviors that cause harm, shame or intimidation. Together, we can uphold Seton Hall’s values and ensure that every student feels supported, respected, and safe.
Is a Student Being Hazed?
Faculty, administrators, and employees may notice signs that a student is experiencing hazing.
These indicators may include:
- Increased or unusual patterns of intoxication, especially at odd hours
- Unexplained absences during the day, week, or even full weekends
- Noticeable fatigue or sleep deprivation
- New or recurring injuries such as bruises, cuts, or marks
- Sudden changes in appearance or unusual dress
- Matching tattoos, piercings, or shaved areas that align with group identity
- Withdrawal from usual friend groups or frequent excuses for being unavailable
- Loss of interest in academics, athletics, or other regular activities
- Consistent, unexplained class absences
- Refusal or inability to speak about certain group-related activities
Remember:
If you observe these signs, take them seriously. Trust your instincts, show support and report concerns to the appropriate campus office. Your role as a campus leader is essential in helping us maintain a safe and respectful community.
