Housing Accommodations

Enrolled Students with disabilities and/or medical conditions that require a specific type of housing assignment may request housing accommodations through Disability Support Services (DSS). DSS reviews accommodation requests as any other accommodation request – to determine if accommodations are required to provide access to a student due to a disability which causes a functional limitation or boundary. Approval of an accommodation by DSS does not ensure that a specific space can be provided. Space is assigned by Residence Life based upon availability.

If you have not yet registered with DSS, you will need to do so prior to submitting a housing accommodation request. Please refer to our Getting Started page for instructions on registering or contact DSS at [email protected] (973) 313-6003.

The Accommodation Request and Documentation Form must be completed by both the student and their medical provider for a housing accommodation request.

Housing Accommodation Requests Deadlines

  • Returning Students – March 15
  • New Students – May 15

Summer Housing – April 1 Requests received after the deadline stated will be reviewed by DSS as they are received. Students should realize that available space for accommodations approved after the deadlines will be significantly more limited, if available at all.

If you are a student seeking a approval for an emotional support animal and another type of housing accommodation, you will need to submit both the Accommodation Request and Documentation form and the ESA Accommodation form.  (March 15, 2025 for Returning Students; May 15, 2025 for Incoming Students).

Things To Remember

  •  Housing accommodations are only for the academic year in which they are approved. Students requesting housing accommodations for the subsequent year, must submit a new form, including documentation, for review.
  • Students will be notified of a decision via university email, prior to Housing Lottery for returning students, and by July 1st for incoming students.
  • Questions about costs and fees should be directed to Residence Life.
  • Students who wish to live on campus must be registered for a full-time course load of 12 credits.
  • Students will be contacted the Department of Residence Life to discuss assignment of approved housing accommodation.
