Annual Fall Career Fair Hosts 100 Companies, Over 500 Students
Thursday, September 28, 2023
One hundred companies and over 500 students attended the Fall Career Fair in Bethany Hall last week. Students had the opportunity to network with professionals from many different industries and discuss various open part-time and full-time positions as well as internship opportunities. A number of those conversations led to students getting interviews and even receiving offers.
Seton Hall’s employment rate for 2022 is 98.5 percent and its graduate school acceptance rate was 98 percent.
Employers were enthusiastic about hearing from Seton Hall students and shared some insight about how to best approach the next career fair or professional event they might encounter.
One of the attendees was Jace Tagert. Tagert, a Seton Hall alum, who was attending the event representing Techtronic Industries. "Speak to professors or advisors and reach out to your career center so that they can help you find any resources so you can do your best to crush a career fair," said Tagert. "It's awesome to network, meet employers, meet other students, meet organizations, and get your personal brand out there."
Matthew McGuire, a representative of Techtronic who accompanied Tagert, agreed. "You are going to be meeting so many people throughout the day. Networking opportunities with fellow students as well as employers is integral to your future growth in your career."
"It opens your mind’s eye." said Tyisha Donaldson, a human resources professional who was representing DKC, a full-service public relations, marketing and government affairs firm and one of the top ten independent PR agencies in the U.S. "If you saw yourself in marketing for example, you might be exposed to a different career you did not know marketing could take you into."
The importance of making connections was emphasized again and again. Mayce Barker, DKC’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Coordinator, summed it up: "Your network is your net worth."
By all accounts, Seton Hall graduates have excelled in this area. Beyond the 98.5 percent employment rate, the most recent Forbes list of Best Colleges in America noted that Seton Hall ranked in the Top Third for the Median 10-Year Salary of its graduates at $120,400 per year, placing it at 159 among the Top 500. If taken within the context of the larger field of 2,616 schools, Seton Hall would then place within the Top 6 percent.
That number is consistent with recent research from Georgetown University that showed Seton Hall to rank within the Top 10 percent of schools nationally for return on investment over the course of a graduate’s workforce career.
The Georgetown research found that Seton Hall alumni can expect to reap an additional $1.4 million in earnings during the course of their career by virtue of their degree, which placed the University at 175 among the 1700 schools – the Top 10 percent nationally.
Student Career Fair Experience
Students from many different majors and class years said they were incredibly pleased
with their experience at the Career Fair. One of these students was senior Fatima
Ramos, who majors in criminal justice and English. She attended the career fair in
search of employment opportunities after graduation. "I got to meet a bunch of potential
employers and meet some really nice people." Ramos said. "It was great to practice
my interview and social skills here at the career fair."
Ryan Rudnick also attended the event. Ryan is a senior at the Stillman School of Business triple majoring in business administration, econometrics, and IT. "Personally, I love the career fair. I went every year except for when I was a freshman because it was virtual. So, I really think everyone should take advantage of coming to the career fair to learn about the opportunities at all of these companies. Everyone is so friendly and so willing to help you.," said Rudnick.
Seniors were not the only ones excited about the opportunities the Career Fair offered. Jeffrey Grynaviski, a freshman quantitative finance major, was pleased with his experience. "I'd say I had a pretty good experience at the career fair. I talked to about 10-15 companies or so. Some of them have told me that because I'm a freshman, they don’t have any openings, but I have at least two potential internships lined up." said Grynaviski.
