Academic Resource Center

Welcome!

The mission of the Ruth Sharkey Academic Resource Center is to help Seton Hall University students realize their full potential and reach beyond.

Schedule an Appointment

Due to the location of the Academic Resource Center in Arts and Sciences, we are not accessible to those who require an elevator to reach the 2nd floor. If you would like to meet with a tutor in person, please reach out to us at [email protected] , so we can set up a meeting in an alternative, accessible location. Tutors are also available to meet virtually. Tutors in Residence, in Aquinas and Boland Halls, are open to all students and accessible via an elevator. Please feel free to reach out to us or Disability Support Services at [email protected] with any questions.

No-Show and Late Cancellation Policy

The Academic Resource Center (ARC) relies on punctuality and consistency. Unfortunately, our ability to provide those services to students is sometimes impacted when students schedule appointments with our tutors and then fail to show up without canceling. The ARC has policies in place regarding no-shows and late cancellations. All students who use the ARC's services agree to abide by these policies and accept the potential consequences of policy violations.

Cancellations can be made through Compass.

No Shows

Students with tutoring appointments have fifteen minutes to arrive for their intended appointment. If you do not arrive within 15 minutes of your appointment’s scheduled start time, or you do not show up at all, you will be considered a no-show.

Late Cancellations

Students are advised to cancel more than 24 hours before the start of their appointment. Appointments canceled within 12 hours of the appointment time will still be considered a no-show. In case of a sudden illness or emergency, please email [email protected] to cancel, so we can make sure you are not marked as a no-show.
The following outlines possible actions when multiple No Show and/or Late Cancellations occur:

  1. One no-show and/or late cancellation within a 7-day period will result in a warning email from the ARC.
  2. Two no-shows and/or late cancellations within a 7-day period will result in a temporary suspension of appointment-making privileges until the student meets with the Director or Program Coordinator to go over the expectations when you make an appointment.
  3. Subsequent no-shows and/or late cancellations may result in a more severe suspension of appointment-making privileges. Students who are affected may still use drop-in tutoring (subject to tutor availability).

Thank you for your consideration when scheduling appointments and for using our services.
