Pre-Professional Advising Center Application Series: Dr. Gray Personal Statement Workshop

doc 2 x320The Pre-Professional Advising Center hosted internet sensation Dr. Ryan Gray to discuss how to write an effective personal statement this past Monday afternoon. The P-PAC has been hard at work this semester providing its Pre-Med students with a series of events to help them prepare for the upcoming application cycle. This Personal Statement Workshop also marked the last meeting of the P-PAC "Empowered to Achieve" Support Group. This support group was hosted every Monday throughout the semester and provided pre-health students with a collaborative and supportive space to discuss resources and strategies to overcome any obstacles that may come up as a pre-health student.

doc x320Gray is the co-founder and CEO of Mappd, a pre-health tracking software, the publisher of Medical School Headquarters and the Meded Media network, and the author of The Premed Playbook guidebook series. You can hear him weekly on several podcasts including The Premed Years, OldPreMeds Podcast, and The MCAT Podcast.

Dr. Gray is also a YouTube and Instagram sensation known for providing students feedback on their medical school applications. It was an amazing opportunity for students to get direct feedback from him on their personal statements through this interactive workshop. Students were so excited to get to discuss their experiences and ideas for their personal statement with the "man behind the screen". Dr. Gray was able to work directly with the students to hone their ideas and provide his expertise. He discussed concepts from his book such as finding and reflecting on your "seed" for medicine and exploring "watering events" to create a format for an ideal personal statement. In an effort to further aid students in their application process, the Pre-Professional Advising Center provided the first few students with free copies of Dr. Gray’s Premed Playbook guidebook series.

The Pre-Professional Advising Center is committed to helping pre-health students reach their true potential and is excited to continue hosting events that will entice and enrich its students on their journey to health professional school. We look forward to seeing you all again next semester as we continue our "Application Bootcamp", "Health Exploration" and "Empowered to Achieve" series.
