Provost Passerini to be Honored at Columbian Foundation 2021 Gala  

Katia PasseriniSeton Hall Provost Katia Passerini has been selected as a 2021 honoree by the Columbian Foundation and will be recognized at the group's annual black tie gala on October 23.

Founded in 1941 in Newark, the Columbian Foundation is a 501c3 nonprofit that has awarded well over a million dollars in scholarships to hundreds of New Jersey college students. Its annual gala serves as a primary fundraiser, awards ceremony, and opportunity to present the student scholarship recipients.

Since its inception the Foundation has honored many Italian-American luminaries including Jimmy Durante, Perry Como, Guy Lombardo, Joe DiMaggio, Phil Rizzuto, Rocky Marciano, Lawrence "Yogi" Berra, Connie Francis, Frankie Avalon, Giorgio Chinaglia, Alfredo Silipigni, and Luciano Pavarotti.

"We are well aware of Dr. Passerini's many accomplishments in higher education and as a community builder in her various leadership roles," noted, Michael V. Calabro Esq. President of the Columbian Foundation. "She is certainly deserving of this award and we are honored to add her name to our distinguished list of previous honorees" added Rocco M. Malanga a Member of the Board of Trustees who nominated Dr. Passerini for this year's Honors.

Enjoying a long relationship with Seton Hall and counting many of the University's alumni among its members, the Foundation has sponsored student scholarships at the University and its Law School and supports the Italian Studies program, led by Dr. William Connell.

"Through my work in Newark, I have seen, first-hand, the good work of the Columbian Foundation," noted Passerini, who added, "It is additionally gratifying to be at Seton Hall which enjoys a longstanding relationship with this organization that does so much good for others and promotes Italian heritage, culture, and community."
