Monica Burnette Named Vice President of Student Services

Message from President Nyre to the University Community:

Dear Members of the Seton Hall Community,

I am very pleased to announce that Monica Burnette, Ph.D., who has served as Interim Vice President of Student Services since August, has been appointed to the permanent role.

Monica BurnetteA member of our community since 2013, Dr. Burnette excels at fostering a welcoming and engaging student experience while advancing crucial University-wide initiatives. She possesses an impressive background in higher education and has built a track record of achievement at Seton Hall that makes her uniquely suited to lead Student Services at this exciting time.

Dr. Burnette’s other leadership roles include serving as co-chair of: Strategic Plan Goal 3, which focuses on student success and managing areas of student engagement, retention and graduation; the Health Intervention and Communication Team; and the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee.

We have come to rely on Dr. Burnette to lead these initiatives and others that are vital to Seton Hall’s success, and have observed firsthand her genuine care and concern for our students. She places their well-being and the priorities of the entire Seton Hall community foremost in everything she does.

As interim vice president, she and her Student Services team welcomed the largest freshman class in Seton Hall history this past fall. This fall, she also authored an Opportunity Meets Innovation Grant that funded $750,000 in additional academic support and resources for first-generation, Pell-eligible students. This is one of the many ways she goes above and beyond to support students and promote positive outcomes.

As the vice president, Dr. Burnette will continue to provide critical leadership and guidance to facilitate decision making in all matters relating to student welfare. She will continue to oversee a wide array of student support and academic programs including, but not limited to, the Academic Resource Center, Career Center, Center for Academic Success, Educational Opportunity Program (EOP), Health Services, Housing and Residence Life and Public Safety and Security.

I look forward to continuing to work with her as a member of the Executive Cabinet. Please join me in congratulating Dr. Burnette on this well-deserved appointment.

Sincerely,
Joseph E. Nyre, Ph.D.
President
