Lewinson Teaching Fellowships
2026 Teaching Fellowship Theme: Immigration
The Lewinson Center for the Study of Labor, Inequality, and Social Justice seeks applications from College of Arts and Sciences full-time faculty members for the Lewinson Teaching Fellowships (LTF).
Two LTFs will be awarded for curricular development.
The LTF provides a $500 stipend to develop a new course or add a module/unit to a pre-existing course on a subject relevant to the mission of the Lewinson Center and in accordance with the scholarship and activism of its namesake, the civil rights pioneer Edwin R. Lewinson. We encourage applications regarding this year’s theme, immigration, vis-à-vis labor, inequality, and social justice; however, proposals on any topic relevant to the Lewinson Center will be given equal attention.
With an eye on the issues of our current day as well as our diverse histories, the
Lewinson Center fosters conversation about labor, inequality, and injustice of many
forms, including — but not limited to — class, race, labor, gender, sexuality, age,
religion, nationality, disability and ideology.
The LRF will receive the $500 stipend during the Spring 2026 semester.
Application Deadline: November 10, 2025.
Decision Delivered: January 30, 2026.
Application Material: Applicants must submit (1) their CV and (2) a proposal (300-600 words) explaining the details of the curricular development and how it overlaps with the purview of the Lewinson Center and contributes to its mission vis-à-vis the applicant’s discipline. See below for additional details specific to proposal type.
New Course: Applicants must share tentative course title and description and how the course integrates with your department’s learning objectives. They must also note whether this is an introductory, intermediate, or advanced course and propose a plan for obtaining relevant approvals as desired (EPC, A&S Core and/or University Core). We encourage applicants to seek A&S and/or University Core 3 approvals (if applicable) so that the new course provides incentives for students to enroll.
Additional Module/Unit: Applicants must share the course number, title, and description, and then note how the new module/unit integrates with the course. They must also note whether this is an introductory, intermediate, or advanced course. If the course in question still requires certain approvals, then note your intention to obtain relevant ones as desired (EPC, A&S Core and/or University Core). If not yet obtained, we encourage applicants to seek A&S and/or University Core 3 approvals (if applicable) so that the pre-existing course provides incentives for students to enroll.
Fellows will be required to submit a summary of their curricular development by September 15, 2026. Succinct summaries will be made public and honored on the Lewinson Center website.
All proposals will be reviewed by the Lewinson Center Advisory Board. For more information or inquiries, email the Director, Axel M. Oaks Takacs ([email protected]).
Submit your proposal by November 10, 2025, through this link.
