Educational Studies Assistant Professor, Bryan Meadows, Ph.D., spoke remotely with
audiences in Vietnam on September 15th as part of an EducationUSA webinar series introducing
US higher education to prospective Vietnamese students. The webinar was hosted by
the EducationUSA Vietnam regional office and was titled, "University study in the United States: The Essential Information". The webinar was hosted on zoom and livestreamed on the US Embassy in Vietnam Facebook page.
The purpose of the webinar lecture was to introduce the US higher education system
to individuals in Vietnam who are considering undergraduate/graduate study in the
United States. As background, Vietnam is the #6 sending nation of international students
to the United States. In 2019, there were 23,000 students from Vietnam enrolled in
US colleges/universities.
The webinar lecture surveyed multiple topics related to colleges/universities in the
United States. Topics included the following: current innovations in program design;
components of international student applications; financing a university degree in
the US; and the student campus experience. Dr. Meadows spoke to the important role
of Intensive English Programs (IEPs) to prepare international applicants with the
academic English proficiency they need to succeed in English-medium undergraduate/graduate
programs in North America. Throughout the webinar presentation, Dr. Meadows integrated
images of campus buildings to showcase the history and beauty of the South Orange
campus.

Dr. Meadows, EDST assistant professor, serves as director of the TESOL teacher education program and the ESL@Seton Hall Intensive English Program. He leads a short-term study abroad class to Tokyo which
affords Seton Hall undergraduates opportunities to visit Tokyo schools firsthand.
