College of Education and Human Services Excels in 2020 Rankings

Seton Hall University was recognized as one of the 50 Best Schools for Special Education, while its online School Counseling program was ranked second in the nation for value.

The M.A. in Special Education, part of the College of Education and Human Services, was ranked 21 out of 183 schools nationwide, up one place from its ranking in 2019. This puts the College's program in the top 15 percent of special education programs, and second in New Jersey. The rankings were compiled by College Factual, a company which identifies leading programs offered by colleges and universities based in part on student outcomes.

"I am proud that our master's in Special Education earned this recognition," says program director Lauren McFadden, Ph.D. "We emphasize the need for exceptional teachers for all students. Our graduates understand the complexities of the disabilities their students live with and how to differentiate instruction to meet both their educational and social-emotional needs." The program offers small class sizes, hands-on lessons and a focus on research-based practices. Guided by faculty who are trained special educators, McFadden adds that graduates "are prepared to make a difference in the lives of their students and their families."

Online Master's in School Counseling Recognized for Value
The Department of Professional Psychology and Family Therapy's online master's program in School Counseling was ranked second in the nation for value by the Guide to Online Schools.

"This is a wonderful accolade," said Charles Jacob, Ph.D., program director of the College's Professional and School Counseling Programs. "This program has provided online education almost since its inception. I am so grateful to see the administration and faculty receive recognition for all they provide to our students."

The graduate program in School Counseling is among Seton Hall's largest online programs, with 128 students, including 11 who are Professional Counseling dual majors.

Established in 2005, the program has launched the careers of school counselors who are meeting the needs of communities and schools around the country. "During such a challenging apex of global health crises and concurrent mental health support needs, it is particularly meaningful to be leading in online education delivery and training," explains Noelany Pelc, Ph.D., director of online programs at the College. "It is a point of pride for me to see the wonderful work of students, faculty, staff, administration, and community partners recognized. They have made our program so successful."
