EDST Assistant Professor, Dr. Bryan Meadows, was an invited international guest speaker
at the First National Conference on Research in Foreign Language Education, held virtually
November 5-6, 2020. The conference was organized and hosted by the Fray Bernardo de
Lugo Language Institute at the University of Santo Tomás, Colombia. The title of the
academic conference was "Hacia la Interdisciplinariedad en La Enseñanza de las Lenguas
Extranjeras en un Contexto Glocal // Towards Interdisciplinarity in Foreign Language
Teaching in a Glocal Context". The 200 participants at the conference included language
education scholars, instructors, and under/graduate students from all over Colombia.
Bryan Meadows was one of two invited international guest speakers. Dr. Meadows's talk
was titled, "Foreign Language Teaching During Pandemic Times: Enduring Principles
and Innovative Technologies". Drawing on his 25 years of experience in the field of
education, Dr. Meadows identified seven enduring principles to guide language educators
through the COVID pandemic. He next specified categories of digital tools that classroom
teachers are relying on to meet the enduring principles, given the current disruption
to in-person classroom teaching due to COVID. The session closed with an active question-and-answer
session between Dr. Meadows and the audience.
EDST faculty participation in international venues contributes to the department's
