CHDCM Expands its Commitment to Spanish-Language Media During Hispanic Heritage Month
Friday, October 16, 2026
In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, Seton Hall University’s College of Human
Development, Culture, and Media (CHDCM) is highlighting its growing commitment to
Spanish-language media through innovative programming, industry partnerships and experiential
learning opportunities designed to prepare the next generation of media professionals.
A milestone in this effort came with the first-ever Spanish-language episode of Campus Nightly, Seton Hall’s student-led news program produced by SHU TV. Presented by CHDCM students Gabriel Garcia and Jessica Martinez, alongside Seton Hall alumnus Jorge Rivera, the episode marks an important step in expanding the program’s reach and celebrating the role of Spanish-language journalism in today’s media landscape.
Campus Nightly brings audiences the latest news across national politics, sports, pop culture and Seton Hall campus life. Featuring guest interviews, student-produced news packages and commercials, the program showcases the creativity and professional talent of students within CHDCM. The Spanish-language episode builds on that mission, offering students new ways to develop their skills while connecting with Spanish-speaking audiences.
Building Pathways into Spanish-Language Media
The episode is part of a broader strategic investment by CHDCM in Spanish-language
media, with a focus on creating distinctive, hands-on learning experiences that connect
students with industry professionals.
Through a partnership with Univision, students will have opportunities to explore the professional media landscape and build connections with some of the industry's leading talent. Planned initiatives include a tour of Univision’s television station in Teaneck, New Jersey, where students will be able to network with professionals and gain insight into the day-to-day operations of a major Spanish-language media organization.
Students will also have the opportunity to see their original work broadcast on Univision’s networks across the tri-state area, providing a valuable platform to showcase their creativity and gain real-world production experience.
The partnership extends beyond the New York metropolitan area. CHDCM is also working with Univision’s Miami station to fund an immersive spring-break experience that will allow students to learn directly from experienced Spanish-language journalists. The initiative aims to bring classroom learning to life through hands-on exposure to professional reporting, storytelling and media production.
Together, these initiatives reflect CHDCM’s commitment to developing meaningful connections between academic learning and the media industry, while opening new professional pathways for students interested in Spanish-language journalism and broadcasting.
A Long-Term Commitment to Student Opportunity
The College’s efforts are supported by the Unanue Latino Institute and Seton Hall
alumni whose engagement is helping turn these opportunities into reality.
“We are grateful to the Unanue Latino Institute for its support, as well as to our wonderful Seton Hall alumni who are helping make these opportunities possible for our students,” said Stefanie Kempton, Assistant Dean of Academic Partnerships & Innovation at CHDCM. “The College is committed to making long-term investments in Spanish-language media, and we have even more exciting events, initiatives and opportunities in the works.”
As Hispanic Heritage Month provides an opportunity to recognize the contributions and influence of Hispanic and Latino communities, CHDCM’s initiatives underscore the importance of representation, access and professional development in media. By giving students opportunities to create content, engage with industry leaders and share their work with broader audiences, the College is investing in both their education and their future careers.
