Update Regarding University Mask Mandate - Seton Hall University

New Jersey's public health statistics have improved markedly. States, cities, and universities throughout the nation are relaxing their mask mandates. Governor Murphy announced the end of New Jersey's mask mandate. Reports indicate the CDC will be amending its masking guidance.

Following the greatly improved public health statistics, Seton Hall's low case counts and high level of vaccination, and updated government guidance, the University is ending its indoor mask mandate, effective Tuesday, March 1, 2022.

Please note the following:

  • Anyone wishing to wear a mask is welcome to do so.
  • Faculty may require masks be worn in their classes, clinicals, and labs, and students must comply.
  • University community members are welcome to request others to wear a mask when meeting. We ask everyone to be considerate of such requests.
  • KN95 and surgical masks will be available at various locations, including Walsh Library (circulation desk- 2nd floor); Schwartz Hall (2nd floor – student welcome desk); Bethany Hall (1st floor- student welcome desk); Mooney Hall (Center for Academic Success- student desk); the security desk at the Law School entrance; the IHS campus security desk; and at the Student Services IHS campus desk (1st Floor, Room 1517).
  • Building signage will be updated to reflect "Masking Welcome"
  • Everyone should always carry a mask with them for those situations where one is desired or needed.
  • Local government mandates, like the one in Newark, still apply.
  • In accordance with Hackensack Meridian Health policy, masking remains required at the Interprofessional Health Sciences campus.

By no means is our experience with COVID-19 over. We have seen, time and again, the many "twists and turns" we said it would throw at us. Through it all, we have persevered. Our shared sacrifices, our concern for ourselves and each other, and our Hazard Zet Forward spirit carry us ahead.

We know that more changes may come, so we continue to monitor public and university health statistics, along with government guidance. As President Nyre noted in his spring 2022 welcome message:

"There is much to look forward to in 2022, as we build on our successful fall semester and create a University that is more vibrant than ever. In reacquainting ourselves with college life, we will continue to manage the shifting public health situation — always with our collective well-being foremost in mind."

Your health and safety remain paramount in Seton Hall's planning and actions. If you have questions, comments, or suggestions, please contact the HICT here.
