Return to Campus Health and Safety Guidelines for Students - Seton Hall University

Dear Students,

We hope you are safe and well as you prepare to return to campus in just a few short weeks. As we prepare Seton Hall for students, we are making great efforts to ensure the health and safety of our whole University community. We want this to be a successful semester—personally and academically—for all of you, and we need your help in achieving that goal.

The Centers for Disease Control and the State of New Jersey have established guidelines for reopening colleges and universities in the safest possible way. After careful consideration, Seton Hall has devised a set of requirements that expands on those guidelines in ways that we believe will provide greater protection and comfort for the well-being and safety of both our student body and everyone else in the Seton Hall community.

Please note that the following requirements apply to ALL students from ALL states; undergraduate, graduate, and professional.

Residential Students

All students who will be living in Seton Hall residence halls must take these steps to ensure that they are free of COVID-19 before coming to campus:

  • Quarantine: All students residing on campus must quarantine at home for 14 days prior to their arrival on campus. Students in quarantine should stay home, separate themselves from others, and monitor their health for signs and symptoms of COVID-19, as outlined in the screening questionnaire. Students are not expected to separate themselves from family members with whom they live.

    OR
  • Testing: Students residing on campus who are unable to quarantine can instead provide a copy of their negative COVID-19 test results (polymerase chain reaction method). The test must have been administered no more than 14 days prior to arrival on campus and can be uploaded to your Health Services portal.

Also, for all residential students:

  • Pledge: All residential students must acknowledge, sign, and abide by the Seton Hall Pledge prior to arriving on campus. You will receive follow up communication to submit your certification.
  • Required Precautions: All residential students, whether or not they quarantine or get tested, are required to strictly follow guidelines regarding physical distancing of at least 6 feet from others and wearing a mask whenever leaving their residence, indoors and outdoors. All students must observe these precautions consistently and diligently beginning 14 days before coming to campus and during travel to Seton Hall.
  • Later Testing: All residential students must acknowledge that they may be required to participate in ongoing testing for COVID-19 at Seton Hall if there is cause or reason for such testing during the course of the year. Reasons may include, among others, being named as a close contact of an infected individual or being part of a sample for surveillance testing to determine the spread of the virus throughout the community.

Non-Residential Students

  • Students who will not be living in Seton Hall 's residence halls must quarantine at home for 14 days before the first day of classes on August 24.

    OR
  • Non-residential students who are unable to quarantine for 14 days are required to strictly follow guidelines regarding physical distancing of at least 6 feet from others and wearing a mask whenever leaving their residence, indoors and outdoors. All students must observe these precautions consistently and diligently beginning 14 days before coming to campus and during travel to Seton Hall.

International Students

  • All international students assigned to live on campus who arrive from overseas will be required to quarantine for 14 days at Ora Manor.
  • All international students living off campus who arrive from overseas will be required to quarantine at their off-campus residence for 14 days.
  • All international students already in the United States should follow the regulations described above for Residential or Non-Residential students.

We are monitoring the course of the pandemic with our community's health and safety foremost in mind. Please visit the Planning for Fall 2020 website for the latest details. We invite you to submit questions and comments here.
