Tutor Training and Certification

At the Academic Resource Center (ARC), we are committed to providing high-quality academic support to our students. To ensure that our tutors are well-prepared to assist you, our tutors undergo extensive training and certification through the College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA).

What is CRLA Certification?

The College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA) is an internationally recognized organization that sets standards for tutoring services in higher education. CRLA certification is a mark of excellence, indicating that our tutors have met rigorous criteria in their training and professional development.

Our CRLA Certified Tutors

All tutors at ARC are required to complete a multi-level training program that meets CRLA standards. This training includes:

Level 1: Regular Tutor Training

  • Focuses on foundational tutoring skills such as communication, active listening, and understanding diverse learning styles. Tutors also learn how to create a supportive and encouraging learning environment.

Level 2: Advanced Tutor Training

  • Builds on Level 1 skills, with additional emphasis on critical thinking, problem-solving strategies, and subject-specific knowledge. Tutors are also trained to handle more complex tutoring scenarios and to assist students with developing study strategies.

Why CRLA Certification Matters

CRLA certification ensures that our tutors are not only knowledgeable in their subject areas but also skilled in delivering effective tutoring sessions. This means you can trust that when you work with a tutor at ARC, you are receiving excellent academic support that is tailored to your needs.
