More Than an Annual Report: A Year of Impact in Student Services

What Does It Really Mean to Serve Students?

It means more than providing a service or answering a question. It means showing up, building connections, creating opportunities and working alongside students to shape an experience where they can thrive.

That work happens every day across Seton Hall.

It’s a student finding community through their first campus event. A club/organization giving students a place to belong and a voice in shaping their community. A Peer Advisor helping a first-year student navigate the highs and lows of their first year. A Student Success Advisor helping a student discover a path forward. A tutor turning a challenging course into a breakthrough. A student employee gaining confidence and leadership skills. 

And none of it happens without our students.

We build the Seton Hall experience with students, not simply for them. Student serve as Orientation Leaders, Resident Assistants, Peer Advisors, Tutors, Peer Mentors, KNOW MORE Peer Educators, survey squad member, student employees and more. Their leadership, ideas and participation are essential to the programs and communities that make Seton Hall what it is.

Students at the Heart of It All

Every student’s Seton Hall journey is different. Some arrive with a clear path; others are still discovering where they belong and what comes next.

Across six areas and 20 departments, students are at the heart of everything we do. We meet students where they are, connect them with the people, resources and opportunities they need and support them throughout their Seton Hall journey, helping each student create an experience that is uniquely their own. 

Bringing the Annual Report to life is a collaborative effort, made possible by colleagues from across the Division. Cassandra Graham, Ph.D., one of the committee’s chairs, reflects on the value of bringing these voices and stories together:

Working in the Division of Student Services, we have the unique opportunity to be on the forefront of supporting students in attaining their goals. As one of the Chairs of the Annual Report Committee, we provide a vehicle for assisting our colleagues in sharing our stories. The content allows us to see each department’s collaborative effort, celebrate our successes, gain insight on collective solutions for resolving challenges and developing optimal outcomes.

Investing in Those Who Support Students

Creating an exceptional student experience starts with investing in the people who make it possible.

This year brought new opportunities for Student Services employees to learn, connect and grow. From the launch of the Caritas Program and Student Services Mentor Program to the Advancing Leaders Collective, professional development workshops and monthly gatherings for deans/directors and mid-level staff, employees had more opportunities to strengthen their skills, share ideas and learn from one another.

Because investing in our people means investing in our students. When our employees have the opportunity to grow and bring their best to their work, our students benefit.

That commitment was recognized nationally when Seton Hall was named a 2026 Most Promising Places to Work in Student Affairs by ACPA–College Student Educators International and The EDU Ledger.

Behind Every Number Is a Student

The annual report brings the Division’s impact to life through accomplishments like:

19,543 student event attendances across 66 Student Activities Board events
91.3% of student respondents reported being very satisfied or satisfied with CAPS services.
100% of graduating seniors in the Pre-Medical/Pre-Dental Plus Program (PMPDPP) who applied to medical school were accepted
5.44 out of 6 average rating for increased awareness of social campus resources, including clubs, activities, events and organizations in University Life course evaluations
385 to 450 increase out of 500 in average Army Fitness Test scores

These are more than numbers. They represent students finding support, building community, overcoming challenges and discovering opportunities to grow.

A Look at What’s Ahead

For current students and families, fellow seton Hall colleagues and those considering making Seton Hall their home, the Annual Report offers a glimpse into the community waiting for them.

At the heart of the Annual Report are the people who make Student Services what it is — our students, our colleagues and our campus partners. As Matt Geibel, co-chair of the Annual Report Committee, reminds us, the report is an opportunity to pause, reflect and celebrate the people behind the work:

We are often asked what keeps us at Seton Hall and invariably the response is the people – our students and those with whom we work. The Student Services annual report is our opportunity to reflect on and celebrate both. We hope everyone will enjoy its contents and appreciate the collaborative efforts of the Division and our campus partners in supporting our students.
