Building on its commitment to create a more robust culture of fairness and equal opportunity, the University has hired Toni Hindsman, '89 as its new Director of Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) Compliance and Title IX Coordinator. In the role, she succeeds Lori Brown – who was recently promoted as the University's Chief Equity, Diversity and Compliance Officer and Title IX Coordinator. Ms. Hindsman will report to Ms. Brown.
"We're thrilled to have a professional of Toni Hindsman's caliber join the University in advancing its mission and providing students, faculty, priests, staff and administrators with a safe and welcoming environment within which to live, learn, work and grow," said Ms. Brown. "We welcome her homecoming to Seton Hall as an important next step in further making the University a home to all."
Kimberly Capadona, '98/J.D. '01, the University's general counsel, agreed: "Toni Hindsman brings a wealth of experience to her role here at Seton Hall. She will help to advance our continuing commitment to exceed the applicable federal and state regulations with regards to issues of equality, anti-discrimination and anti-harassment, which are an integral part of our Catholic mission."
As Director of EEO Compliance and Title IX Coordinator, Ms. Hindsman is charged with ensuring that the University’s compliance and training programs, as well as its policies, are in accord with state and federal regulations, and will develop, revise, and recommend policies and procedures related to the University’s anti-discrimination, non-retaliation, and whistleblowing policies. She will also be responsible for reviewing and investigating claims, overseeing the Title IX Compliance Program, and serving as the 504/ADA coordinator. Ms. Hindsman will also oversee the administration of the Ethics Point Hotline and web-based reporting system in compliance with the University’s Whistleblower Policy and will prepare metric driven reports regarding the University’s progress for the Audit Committee of the Board of Regents.
Prior to Seton Hall, Ms. Hindsman was the Director of Employment, Diversity & Inclusion at Montclair State University. During her time at Montclair State, Ms. Hindsman identified a crucial need to address harassment complaints that fell outside the requirements of state and federal regulations and piloted and ultimately established a successful mediation program. In addition, Ms. Hindsman investigated discrimination and Title IX complaints, prepared investigative reports and made recommendations to the University President.
Before her employment at Montclair State University, Ms. Hindsman enjoyed a thirteen-year career with the Department of Veterans Affairs as its Equal Employment Opportunity Program Manager. In that capacity, Ms. Hindsman served as a key adviser on all EEO/AA and diversity management matters to the Medical Center Director. Also, Ms. Hindsman served as the Local Reasonable Accommodation Coordinator for the VA and assisted employees and managers in response to disability-related accommodation requests.
Earlier in her career, Ms. Hindsman found her niche and passion for civil rights, justice, and compliance as an Enforcement Investigator for eight years with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), where she investigated a host of complex discrimination charges.
A proud alumna, Ms. Hindsman received her B.A. in Sociology from the University and her M.A. in Sociology from Montclair State.
