Summer Writing Retreat Goes Virtual
Wednesday, May 13th, 2020
Since its first iteration in 2016, the annual Summer Writing Retreat has been consistently popular with faculty from across the university as a way to kick-start their summer research and writing projects.
This year, the Center for Faculty Development will again host the writing retreat, but this time it will run virtually. Each day, faculty will work from 9 a.m. until noon and then break for lunch, returning at 12:30 to work until 3 p.m. At the end of the third day, participants will be asked to submit their writing/research goals for the rest of the summer in the Microsoft Teams chat. In addition, interested faculty will be able to form writing groups to meet for the remainder of the summer in order to keep the inspiration and motivation going.
Attendance at the writing retreat has increased steadily each year, with 40 faculty members participating last year and 48 currently scheduled for this year's retreat. Last year, for the first time, the retreat was also held at the IHS campus in Nutley. There is an additional Winter Writing Retreat, typically scheduled for the second week in January.
This year the writing retreat is open to both full-time and part-time faculty.
