Appointment of Donna McMonagle as Vice President for Finance and Chief Financial Officer
Tuesday, February 15, 2022
Dear Members of the Seton Hall Community,
I am very pleased to announce that Donna McMonagle, a strategic financial leader with broad experience in capital finance, treasury and risk management, will join Seton Hall as Vice President for Finance and Chief Financial Officer.
Donna comes to us from Montclair State University, where she serves as Vice President for Finance and Treasurer. She is scheduled to begin her position at Seton Hall on March 28. As Vice President and CFO, she will serve as a member of the Executive Cabinet and provide leadership and guidance for financial decision-making and administration of the University’s information technology.
Donna was selected after a nationwide search that reflected Seton Hall’s commitment to shared governance. A representative search committee including faculty members appointed by the Faculty Senate worked with Isaacson Miller, Inc., a highly regarded search firm, throughout the process.
Key to Donna’s success in the public and private sectors is her unique array of qualitative and quantitative skills. She has expertise in cultivating long-term collaborative relationships with internal and external constituents. And she is adept at analyzing and translating complex financial issues in an approachable and effective way — all in support of institutional progress and innovation.
Donna shares Seton Hall’s commitment to providing an outstanding Catholic higher education that can change destinations and transform lives. She is keenly aware of how institutional financial decisions affect affordability and student success, and is fully committed to finding solutions that support eliminating obstacles to student persistence.
Before moving into higher education, Donna spent more than three years at NRG Energy, a diversified energy company in Princeton, where she developed a wide set of responsibilities as head of credit risk. She also led capital financings and managed treasury initiatives as Director of Treasury—Finance.
Prior to that, she advanced through positions of increasing responsibility in 13 years at Fitch Ratings, an international bond rating agency. At the outset of her career, she built expertise over several years in the banking sector.
Donna is a graduate of the University of Scranton and volunteers on the finance committee at Saint Mary’s Parish in Nutley.
I would like to thank Bob McLaughlin for expertly leading the Division of Finance as Interim Vice President since September. With Donna’s arrival, Bob will return to his role as Associate Vice President for Finance. I also would like to express my appreciation to members of the search committee who vetted a highly qualified field of candidates for the position.
Please join me in welcoming Donna to Seton Hall.
Sincerely,
Joseph E. Nyre, Ph.D.
President
