Withdrawal Procedure for F1 Students

F1 students who intend to withdraw from the university (permanently or temporarily), must report to OIP and your academic department prior to leaving the University.

Students who do not meet with OIP prior to leaving, will be considered as withdrawing without authorization and may jeopardize their ability to return to the U.S. or apply for certain benefits in the future.

Important Information:
Depending on the reason for your withdrawal and your future plans, OIP must take an appropriate action with your SEVIS record and advise you on your options regarding your F1 status. There are many factors to consider, such as staying in the U.S. vs. returning to your home country, taking a medical leave, returning to the U.S. within 5 months vs. after 5 months etc.

Procedure to Withdraw:

  1. Meet with OIP to discuss plans to withdraw from the university and complete the "OIP Withdrawal Form" at the meeting
  2. For undergraduate students, meet with the Dean of Students and complete the "Undergraduate Request for Withdrawal Form"
  3. For graduate students, meet with the director of your academic program and bring the"Graduate request for Withdrawal Form" to the Registrar".
