Four Seton Hall Students on a Journey to Erase Lymphoma Through Love
Monday, March 14, 2022
The Paul Foundation, founding sponsor of The Lymphoma Research Foundation, strives to eradicate lymphoma, a type of cancer that affects the lymphatic system, while serving those impacted by it. The Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) national Bateman case study competition chose The Lymphoma Research Foundation as a client.
Kathryn Lancioni, instructor of Public Relations and advisor for the University's Bateman team, noted, "This competition truly allows students to showcase their passion for public relations and implement the skills they have learned in the classroom."
Lancioni continued, "Beyond a competition, these students have made this campaign their philanthropy, as lymphoma is more common between the ages of 15 to 39. They are creating a lasting impact within their community, with the hopes of increasing the rates of early detection."
Phase two of this campaign, titled, "In the Spotlight," ran from February 21 through March 4. Michele Modugno, the co-director of social media for the Bateman team, expressed that she is "beyond excited to see this campaign come to fruition. We want to show our community that no one fights alone."
The campaign challenged young adults in the community with engaging social media activities on both Instagram and other Seton Hall social media sites. The Bateman team tested residents of South Orange on their knowledge of lymphoma to win a price through spontaneous "Billy on the Street" interviews, which aimed to bring awareness to the South Orange community.
Modugno added, "We want to emphasize that loving our friends, our families and even our partners, starts by loving ourselves first, with early detection."
