Faculty Spotlight on Professor Katie Smith  

Katie Smith, Ph.D., an assistant professor in the Department of Education Leadership, Management and Policy, was recently selected by the University's Office of the Provost for a faculty spotlight. Professor Smith's expertise is higher education, and she is an outstanding researcher, teacher, and mentor to doctoral students. 

Over the past year, Smith has maintained an active research agenda while providing significant mentorship and support to students in the Higher Education graduate programs. Smith's research focuses primarily on college student career development and post-graduate outcomes, and she recently received a highly competitive $50,000 grant from the Spencer Foundation to support her research on undergraduate women's experiences in computer science internships. In 2021, Smith published three empirical journal articles and one book chapter co-authored with Seton Hall doctoral students. She also has six manuscripts currently under review. In the past year, Smith has given seven presentations at five local and national conferences for education researchers and practitioners, including three presentations with Seton Hall graduate students. Smith is an active reviewer for higher education journals and conferences and currently serves on the Institutional Review Board at Seton Hall.

Smith holds a Ph.D. in Educational Research and Policy Analysis from North Carolina State University. She earned her M.S. in Higher Education Administration at the University of Rochester. She began her studies at the State University of New York in Geneseo, where she earned a bachelor's in Psychology and Spanish.
