Blue Courage at Seton Hall
Tuesday, February 18, 2020
The course is designed to engage a transformational process that focuses on the human development of law enforcement professionals. Blue Courage will return to Seton Hall to offer a two-day course entitled "Blue Courage: The Heart and Mind of the Guardian."
The course notes advise that "few professions are more physically, mentally and emotionally demanding than law enforcement," and that "Blue Courage addresses personal challenges many officers face such as cynicism, identity, judgment, integrity, leadership and stress management."
Class participants will:
- Go beyond learning tactical and critical incident survival and ensure officers' readiness to both prevent and recover in the aftermath.
- Reignite a sense of passion, purpose and commitment to the nobility of policing.
- Awaken their moral compass and the courage to do what it right.
- Improve decision-making skills under pressure.
- Understand how to build relationships and trust with the community.
- Develop an organizational culture of learning, critical thinking, tolerance and curiosity.
Made possible largely through outside funding, the program is complimentary for current students and alumni of the Graduate Police Studies Program as well as Chiefs of Police and other law enforcement agency heads or their designees.
"We are pleased to make this critical training available without cost to our CEHS graduate students and alumni as well as senior law enforcement leadership," said Karen A. Passaro, J.D., Dean of the Division of Continuing Education and Professional Services. "At Seton Hall, we support law enforcement and this programming is the definition of support."
Dean of the College of Education and Human Services Maureen Gillette agreed, "Blue Courage programming has quickly become a mainstay for police departments across the country because it is not tactical training per se, but training in the tactics and mindset necessary for well-being and peak performance — essentially, training for the mind, body and spirit of our trusted public servants."
Participants who complete the two-day training will receive a certificate.
"Blue Courage: The Heart and Mind of the Guardian," will be offered on March 3-4, 2020 from 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., with breakfast and lunch included.
