Paige Anderson '17/ M.A '18 shares her success: from student to Global Communication Specialist.
Paige Anderson '17/ M.A. '18, an alumnus of the College of Human Development, Culture, and Media, works as a Global Communication Specialist for an international company, Chubb Insurance. How did she get here? Anderson transferred from Miami to Seton Hall University, searching to become one step closer to achieving her public relations career goals. After her transition to the University, she quickly took advantage of the dual B.A./M.A. program her junior year which placed her on the path to accomplish just that.
"Seton Hall was a great location for me. Being a short train ride from New York City made it easier when the time came for internship opportunities and job interviews. I had the ability to interview in the city during the day and still enjoy my classes at night," Anderson said. With accessibility to the city, Paige had the opportunity to expand her network and venture outside of her comfort zone to discover new opportunities.
In addition to network opportunities outside of the College, Paige built meaningful relationships with professors within the program. "One of the great benefits of the program are the faculty members. I valued their insight of the field and they provided students with avenues towards great success" Anderson said. "Their teaching styles are reflective of real-world scenarios that add value to the classroom." Prior to her current position at Chubb Insurance, Paige worked at EJ Media Group as a Digital Strategist. Through her career change, Anderson was able to utilize the skillset she gained from the M.A. in Public Relations program, to work on differing ends of the communication spectrum.
A notable classroom experience was attributed to the smaller classroom sizes that facilitated ways for her to engage with her peers. "Being able to network with classmates and build peer relationships was something I enjoyed, we helped each other, and some relationships blossomed into internship or even job placement opportunities," Anderson said.
With an extensive network at her disposal, Anderson has kept in touch with professors and her peers in the program. She accredits her new position at Chubb Insurance to the lasting connections she made with Dean Deirdre Yates, Dr. Robinson and her graduate peer, Brittany Scoles. "It's a tremendous opportunity to see from a student perspective and an alumni perspective how the College makes sure to stay connected to the community and help students continue to grow every step of their career," Anderson shared.
As a professional in the field, Anderson's role allows her to utilize transferrable skills learned during her time in the program. "Within my first week on the job, I found that much of my graduate coursework, material and thesis writing have helped me feel comfortable stepping into a higher-level role that has a strong narrative and corporate values," Paige remarked.
Anderson accredits her ability to learn from mistakes made in the past that supported her accomplishments in the present. "I enjoyed being able to pave my own avenue in the program. Even during challenging moments, the experience allowed me to find my passion."
