Mask Requirement Update for Resident Students  

The requirement does not apply to the residence halls as this area is regarded as your home, where you would not normally wear a mask regularly. However, there are certain instances when it is necessary for you to wear a mask, even in the residence halls and even in your room. These include, but are not limited to:

• When personnel from Facilities Engineering or Housekeeping need to access your living space to inspect something, do repairs, or do similar work on the University's behalf. In these instances, you are required to wear a mask or to leave the area until their work is completed.
   
• When Housing and Residence Life staff need to meet with you as part of their work, they may request you to wear a mask, or they may request you to meet in their office where masking is required.
   
• When Public Safety responds to your room for a call for service, assistance, or other need, you are required to wear a mask while interacting with the Public Safety officers.
   
• If you are vaccinated against the COVID-19 virus and are exposed to someone who tests positive for the virus, you do not have to quarantine if you are and remain asymptomatic, but you do have to wear a mask for 14 days after the exposure for your safety and that of those around you. You should also be tested 3-5 days after exposure for COVID-19; this can be done at Health Services.
   
• If you and your roommate/suitemates disagree about masking, your RA will help you to mediate a workable solution for all.

These are common-sense examples of when masking in residential settings is necessary for your health and safety and for our community.
