World Leaders Forum Welcomes the Papal Nuncio

On Wednesday, February 1, Seton Hall University welcomes Archbishop Christophe Pierre, Apostolic Nuncio to the United States, for an address at the World Leaders Forum. Hosted by the School of Diplomacy and International Relations, the event will take place at the University Center on the main campus at 4 p.m.

About the Speaker 

Portrait of Archbishop Pierre 222x222 As Ambassador to the Holy See, the Apostolic Nuncio is the Vatican’s representative to the Church in the United States and to the country’s government.

Archbishop Christophe Pierre was appointed to his role by Pope Francis on April 12, 2016. He had previously served as Apostolic Nuncio for Haiti from 1995 – 1999, and then for Mexico, from 1999 – 2007. Archbishop Pierre has served the Pontifical Representation in New Zealand and the Islands of the Pacific, in Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Cuba Brazil and in the Permanent Mission of the Holy See at the United Nations in Geneva, Switzerland.

Born in Rennes, France in 1946 Archbishop Pierre was ordained in 1970 and served as parochial vicar in the diocese of Nanterre, France.

In his address to the Seton Hall community, the Papal Nuncio is expected to speak about the diplomatic work of the Holy See and its unique position in international law and custom.

The World Leaders Forum provides an opportunity for speakers to encourage dialogue in search of new avenues for building peace. As part of this signature program, the School of Diplomacy has most recently welcomed United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres, and U.S. Ambassador to the UN Linda Thomas-Greenfield.
