Coming Back Better

We are all looking forward to a return to "normal" in the Fall – in-person classes, attending athletic events, music on the Green, and so much more. In Housing and Residence Life, we are looking forward to all of that and more – we are Coming Back Better. We will welcome students to their Home at the Hall with new programming, new opportunities, and a renewed commitment to making this the best year yet! Here is a glimpse of what you can expect:

  • Focus on Sophomores: We know our rising sophomores missed a great deal in their first year, not being able to participate in many of the traditions of starting at the University and being a freshman. We want to make up for that. We will be partnering with the Athletics Department, the Office of Student Engagement and others across campus to be sure that you have the experiences you missed and more.
  • Academic Success: National studies have shown that students living on campus do better academically and are more likely to graduate on time than students who live off-campus. We will not take that for granted. We will support our residents in achieving their best in and out of the classroom.
  • Resident Leadership for Change: Want to make a difference? Want to see changes in your Hall and beyond? Then this is the year to get involved. We will be seeking resident student voices who wish to be heard and resident students who want to lead to be part of a new association to make that difference a reality.
  • 24/7 Support: Know that you have the support you need when you need it through a dynamic and professionally trained staff who live in the Halls with you. With key partners like Public Safety, CAPS, and the Dean of Students Office, our residents know their Home at the Hall is safe, and help is always available.

The best part of Coming Back Better – is you, the residents of our Halls! We want to be sure that we can accommodate as many students as possible who want to live on campus in the Fall. We also want the room and roommate selection process to be as easy and fair a process as possible, recognizing that after a year of COVID-19 and all the restrictions, our past process of “priority points” would not work for many students. After researching what works well at other Universities, we are adopting a Lottery System for housing selection for the coming year.
