Vandalism Policy

Purpose

The vandalism policy further defines what vandalism is in University residence halls. To align with University code of conduct, this provides a reiteration of community and the mutual respect of living in University housing and the actions of all guests or visitors to the residence halls.

Definitions

Vandalism: Intentional damage to property of the University or property of a member of the University community or other personal or public property, on and off campus (University sponsored housing). It includes reckless or negligent behavior that a reasonable person would know that engaging in that behavior could cause damage. Vandalism includes damage to their residence room or the belongings of others including Seton Hall University property.

Policy

All students agree to abide by the University Student Code of Conduct. 

All students agree to not damage or break University property including, but not limited to room furnishings, bulletin boards, doors, water fountains, ceiling tiles, public furniture, signage, and/or other spaces, etc. 

All students are subject to the University judicial process if found having caused vandalism which may include an issued fine added to their bursar account. 

All students are responsible for the actions of their guests and will be held responsible should their guest(s) violate the vandalism policy. 

All students are responsible for abiding by the Fire Safety: Rationale, Regulations and Resources for Seton Hall University Housing Facilities.  

Tampering with fire safety systems and suppression systems can result in removal from University housing and is considered vandalism. This includes covering the smoke detector, taking the smoke detector apart, damage sprinkler systems, etc.
