Policy on Mandatory Student Compliance Training

Purpose

To provide a safe teaching, learning, working and living environment, the Seton Hall University Board of Regents requires that all students of the University community complete a Mandatory Student Compliance Training Program (“Training Program”).  The Training Program is intended to benefit the University community in accordance with the Catholic principle of the personal responsibility that each member of the community has for their own self, for each other and, ultimately, for the community as a whole.  This policy is administered in accordance with Seton Hall’s Catholic educational mission and the teachings of the Catholic Church.

Scope

This policy applies to any person taking courses offered by or at Seton Hall University (“University”) which may lead to a degree or certificate awarded by the University, at the undergraduate or graduate level, including the Law School. This policy also applies to any person taking courses offered by or at the University in a non-matriculated status, except for those high school students participating in Project Acceleration.

Definitions

Policy

The University Student Training Program is mandatory for all persons included in the Scope of this policy (“Students”) and must be completed as set forth below.  Completion of the Training Program is intended to provide the necessary skills to foster a safe and respectful environment.  Non-compliance with this policy may result in a letter of advisement and/or other appropriate response from the University.  

A. Training Program

Title IX Training/Sexual Assault Prevention

1.  The University shall determine the appropriate Title IX/sexual assault prevention training course that is to be completed by each Student.

2.  All Students shall complete their assigned Title IX/sexual assault prevention training course within thirty (30) days of the start of their first class at the University or as otherwise directed by the University.  Thereafter, a training course is required to be completed annually in accordance with the Training Program Schedule or as otherwise directed by the University.  

3.  Students are encouraged to voluntarily participate in all other Title IX/sexual assault prevention programming offered by the University.  

University Policies Against Sexual Misconduct, Discrimination, Harassment and Retaliation

All Students are required to review and comply with their responsibilities under the University Policy Against Sexual Misconduct, Sexual Harassment and Retaliation, and the University Policy Against Discrimination, Harassment and Retaliation.

B.  Notification of Training Program Schedule

Students will receive notice of their Training Program schedule and required completion date.

C.  Certification

In accordance with the University’s Policy on Misconduct, Sexual Misconduct and Retaliation, all Students shall annually complete the attached certification certifying that they fulfilled their training obligations, and that they reviewed and understand their responsibilities under the policies against misconduct, discrimination, harassment and retaliation. All Students must submit their signed certification to the Title IX Coordinator.

D.  Changes or Additions to the Training Program

The University may add or change elements of the University’s Training Program as deemed appropriate and necessary.
