Dr. Stanton joined Seton Hall University and Hackensack-Meridian Health as Dean of School of Medicine and President, Academic Enterprise, Hackensack Meridian Health in March, 2016.

Prior to assuming this role, Dr. Stanton served in leadership roles for fourteen years at Wayne State University School of Medicine where she had been Vice Dean for Research, SOM (2011‑2016), Chair, Department of Pediatrics and Pediatrician‑in‑Chief, Children's Hospital of Michigan (2002‑2011) and President, University Pediatrics (the practice plan for the Department of Pediatrics) (2002‑2012). The Department of Pediatrics and the practice plan flourished under her leadership in size, national quality of care metrics and both research and educational achievements.

Before joining Wayne State, Dr. Stanton had been Chair, Department of Pediatrics at West Virginia University School of Medicine from 1999 to 2002 and previously had been Division Chief, General Pediatrics (1988‑1999), and Vice Chair, Department of Pediatrics at the University of Maryland School of Medicine (1997‑1999). From 1983‑1988, Dr. Stanton served in Bangladesh as a Senior Researcher at the International Health for Diarrheal Diseases Research where she led the Urban Volunteer Program in the treatment and prevention of diarrheal diseases in urban slums, and a large diarrheal prevention and intervention research program. For her last two years in Bangladesh she was the World Bank's Maternal‑Child Health Specialist. Prior to moving to Bangladesh, Dr. Stanton held the position of Medical Director of Yale University's Hill Health Center and attended on Yale's Pediatric Infectious Disease Service.

Dr. Stanton completed her Pediatric Infectious Disease Fellowship at Yale and residency training at Rainbow Babies and Children's Hospital. She received her Medical Degree (cum laude, Alpha Omega Alpha) from Yale University School of Medicine and her BA in Biology (magna cum laude, Durant Scholar) from Wellesley College.

Consistent with her role as a nationally recognized academic leader, Dr. Stanton has authored over 300 peer‑reviewed manuscripts and served as an editor of several textbooks including Nelson Textbook of Pediatrics (for the three most recent editions). Since 2012 she has served as Consulting Editor for Pediatric Clinics of North America, and since 2010 has been a member of the Editorial Board of Clinical Keys (Elsevier Health Sciences). She has served on numerous national educational committees such as the American Board of Pediatrics Global Task Force and Planning Committee and the Macy Conference on Pediatric Professional Education (2002‑2003). She has served on and chaired/presided over multiple national organizations, including serving as the President of the Association of Medical School Pediatric Department Chairs as well as Chair of the Women in Pediatrics Federation of Pediatric Organizations Task Force on Women in Pediatrics. From 2008 to 2014, she served on the Advisory Board ("Council") to the Fogarty International Center of the National Institutes of Health, Washington, DC.

While academic leadership has been the focal point of her career, it is noteworthy that Dr. Stanton has been continuously funded as a principal investigator on one or more NIH awards since 1990 and she has served on and/or chaired multiple NIH study sections. She has received numerous accolades for her research contributions in global HIV prevention and has consulted for numerous national and international agencies including WHO, the World Bank, UNICEF, Elsevier and USAID.

Dr. Stanton remains clinically active and is a respected teacher for her residents and students. The students elected her to the Gold Humanism Society at Wayne State University and the Pediatric Residents at Children's Hospital of Michigan established as an award the "Bonita Stanton Professionalism in Pediatrics" award, given annually to the graduating resident identified by his/her peers as possessing the highest attributes of professionalism.

Throughout her career, she has selectively availed herself of opportunities to increase her skills in academic leadership, including serving as a Fellow in the AAMC's Council of Deans Fellowship program (2002/2003).

John T. Schiavone, M.B.A.

John Schiavone has been building teams and executing complex initiatives for over 25 years in the higher education, software, automotive, call center, and Wall Street arenas. He was personally hired by Chrysler's EVP of Manufacturing in 1996, the CEO of Tower Automotive (2000), co-founder of Intuit Inc. (2003), and the Provost of Wayne State University (2011) for his process and operations acumen.

At Wayne State University in Detroit, Mich. Mr. Schiavone worked on multiple campus-wide initiatives and several specific to the School of Medicine (SOM). In particular, he assumed a lead role in strengthening the SOM's clinical partnership with the Henry Ford Health System, updated the School's Strategic Plan, and prepared for the 2015 LCME accreditation site visit. He also actively coordinated a consortium of Michigan's medical schools to secure state-funded primary care residency funding, and played lead roles in preparing the successful application for the multi-million dollar National Institutes of Health Research Enhancement for Building Infrastructure Leading to Diversity (REBUILD) and Bridges to Baccalaureate Program (BRIDGES) grant proposals. In addition, he served as the co-Chair of the Liaison Committee preparing for the 2017 university-wide reaffirmation of accreditation with the Higher Learning Commission.

Mr. Schiavone received his M.B.A. with distinction from the Harvard Business School, and his A. B. in Economics magna cum laude from Harvard College.

"As a product of a parochial grammar school and Jesuit high school education right here in New York," said Mr. Schiavone, "it is an honor to help shape the nation's seventh Catholic medical school. Dean Stanton's focus on the community and continuous improvement in health outcomes for all offers a great opportunity to bring my skills from outside medicine to accelerate and amplify delivery of this vision and mission."

Miriam Hoffman, M.D.

Dr. Miriam Hoffman joined the School of Medicine from the Boston University School of Medicine (BUSM), where she had been since 2003. She held many roles within BUSM and the Department of Family Medicine.

Dr. Hoffman was the chair of the Clerkship Curriculum Subcommittee at BUSM. She also served as a member of the Medical Education Committee, the LCME Curriculum Committee, and the Educational Quality Improvement Committee, among others. Dr. Hoffman co-chaired the Clinical Competencies Working Group, conducting a comprehensive assessment of clinical skills training, ultimately proposing a comprehensive and staged plan for overhauling the program. She developed and implemented the first educational session in the BUSM medical school curriculum that uses a full-body high fidelity simulator.

Dr. Hoffman has been a leader in evidence-based medicine (EBM) curriculum and training. BUSM developed a four year integrated EBM curriculum under her leadership as well as the Finding Information Framework (FIF), a conceptual framework as well as an App and web-based tool. She has created and delivered numerous faculty development sessions focused on curriculum development and clinical teaching. She created the One Minute Learner - a tool that promotes and structures a conversation between student and teacher about goals and expectations, which makes clinical teaching more effective and efficient. She is currently faculty in the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine's Medical Student Educator Development Institute.

Dr. Hoffman has spent her clinical career working with patients from diverse backgrounds in underserved settings, including community health centers and safety net hospitals. Her clinical practice at BU included an outpatient practice at the East Boston Neighborhood Health Center and attending at Boston Medical Center on the Family Medicine inpatient service and Labor and Delivery. She is fluent in Spanish.

Dr. Hoffman completed her undergraduate education at the Johns Hopkins University, received her medical degree from Cornell University Medical College, and completed her residency at the New York Presbyterian Hospital/Columbia University Family Medicine Residency.

Stanley R. Terlecky, Ph.D.

Dr. Terlecky joins the Hackensack Meridian School of Medicine at Seton Hall University from the Wayne State University School of Medicine where he served as Associate Dean of Biomedical Graduate Programs and Director of the Interdisciplinary Biomedical Sciences curriculum. Committed to biomedical education innovation, he has developed and launched unique training programs for both medical and graduate students. He is recognized as an outstanding teacher, mentor, and student advocate.

Dr. Terlecky is an active and accomplished researcher and biotechnology entrepreneur whose work has focused on understanding peroxisome biology in human health, disease, and aging. He has authored over 50 scientific articles and holds several United States and worldwide patents. His research has been supported by grants from the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the March of Dimes, and the Children's Research Center of Michigan, among others. Dr. Terlecky has presented his research worldwide, served on study sections for the NIH and the National Science Foundation, and currently is an editor of the Nature research journal, Scientific Reports and the Wiley-Blackwell cell biology journal, Traffic.

Dr. Terlecky received a bachelor's degree in Fine Arts from New York University in 1984, and performed graduate studies in biochemistry, immunology, and physiology at Harvard University. In 1993, he received a doctorate degree in cellular and molecular physiology from Tufts University School of Medicine, Sackler School of Biomedical Sciences. From 1993 to 1998, Dr. Terlecky was a postdoctoral fellow at the University of California, San Diego. In 1998, he joined the faculty in the Department of Pharmacology at Wayne State.

Dr. Terlecky has received the Individual National Research Service Award from the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases, NIH; the Basil O'Connor Starter Scholar Research Award from the March of Dimes Birth Defects Foundation; the Junior Faculty Lectureship from the WSU Academy of Scholars; the College Teaching Award, the Interdisciplinary Biomedical Sciences Curriculum Award, and the Research Excellence Award from the WSU School of Medicine; the Inventor Recognition Award from the WSU Technology Transfer Office; and, the Inventor Recognition Award for issued United States patent from the WSU Technology Commercialization Office.

"It is a distinct honor and privilege to join the effort to launch the Hackensack Meridian School of Medicine at Seton Hall University," said Dr. Terlecky. "Founding Dean Bonnie Stanton has a vision for producing 21st century physicians that deliver transformational healthcare focused on those 'in greatest need'. It is rare to have an opportunity to participate in the creation of such an enterprise and my sense is that what is being synthesized will be a model for medical schools across the country."

Jeffrey R. Boscamp, M.D.

Dr. Boscamp, Professor of Pediatrics at the Hackensack Meridian School of Medicine at Seton Hall University, has been centrally involved in the founding of the new medical since its inception. It is a logical next step that he will assume a major leadership role in the new entity as Associate Dean, Medical Education Continuum. In addition, he will continue to serve as Vice President and co-Chief Academic Officer at Hackensack University Medical Center, a position he has held for the past three years.

Dr. Boscamp has served as the Marvin I. Gottlieb, M.D., Ph.D. Chairman of Pediatrics and Physician-In-Chief of the Joseph M. Sanzari Children's Hospital from 2002 through 2016. He founded the Section of Pediatric Infectious Diseases and of the Steven Bader Immunologic Institute at Hackensack University Medical Center.

Dr. Boscamp received his B.A. from Williams College (Williamstown, MA) and his M.D. from New York Medical College (New York, NY). He was a Research Associate at Harvard Medical School (Boston, MA) and did his pediatric residency at Babies Hospital, Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center (New York, NY). After completing pediatric training, he was a resident in internal medicine at Yale University School of Medicine, Greenwich Hospital (Connecticut). He subsequently completed a fellowship in adult and pediatric infectious diseases at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine (Bronx, NY).

Dr. Boscamp joined the medical staff at Hackensack University Medical Center in 1987, and was appointed Chief of the Section of Pediatric Infectious Diseases in 1990. At Hackensack University Medical Center he is a Consultant to the Institute for Child Development and the Children's Cancer Institute. He is a Consultant in Pediatric Infectious Diseases at Morristown Memorial Hospital (Morristown, NJ).

Dr. Boscamp is Chairman of the NJ Chapter, American Academy of Pediatrics, Committee on Infectious Diseases and a member of the executive committee of that organization. He was appointed by the Governor as a member of the Catastrophic Illness in Children Relief Fund Commission. He is a fellow of the AAP and the Pediatric Infectious Diseases Society and a member of the Infectious Diseases Society of America, the Infectious Diseases Society of New Jersey, and the American Society for Microbiology. Dr. Boscamp is board-certified in Pediatric Infectious Diseases, is a member of Alpha Omega Alpha, and has received numerous professional awards in recognition of his teaching and clinical skills.

In discussing his new role, Dr. Boscamp remarked, "It has been a pleasure working with the Seton Hall University and Hackensack University Medical Center to establish the foundation for the School of Medicine and, since February, to work so closely with Dean Stanton to prepare to launch the School and secure its accreditation. The terrific outcomes that will soon emerge for the community, HUMC, and Seton Hall cannot be underestimated."

David S. Kountz, M.D., M.B.A., F.A.C.P.

Dr. Kountz is Professor of Medicine at Hackensack Meridian School of Medicine at Seton Hall University, Vice President for Academic Diversity and Co-Chief Academic Officer for Hackensack Meridian Health. Dr. Kountz is also Vice President, Academic Affairs at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, a position he has held since 2007.

Dr. Kountz received his bachelor's degree from Princeton University, his M.D. from the State University of New York/Buffalo School of Medicine, and an M.B.A. from Georgian Court University. He completed his internship and residency in internal medicine at Hahnemann University Hospital in Philadelphia, where he also served as chief resident. From 1988 to 1994, Dr. Kountz had progressive responsibility in medical education in the Department of Medicine at Hahnemann. During those years, he also participated in two part-time, non-degreed fellowships at Michigan State University: faculty development (funded by the Health Resources and Services Administration) and health care management (funded by the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill).

Dr. Kountz joined Temple University School of Medicine in 1994, where he served as Associate Chief of General Internal Medicine and Director of the Ambulatory Care Clinic for Temple University Hospital. In 1996, he was recruited to what was then called the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ)-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, where he spent 11 years in the dean's office, at various times overseeing community health, clinical affairs, graduate medical education and continuing medical education. While at UMDNJ, Dr. Kountz was recognized with the Master Educator's Award and served as White Coat Ceremony speaker and Convocation speaker; he also received the Award of Honor from Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital and the Frances Black Humanitarian Award from the Friends Health Connection.

Dr. Kountz's clinical interests are in cardiovascular diseases in underserved populations, medical education and health literacy, and he has authored more than 70 peer-reviewed publications. He is the immediate past-president of the International Society on Hypertension in Blacks (ISHIB), and is on the board of directors for the Alliance for Independent Academic Medical Centers (AIAMC). He is also a member of the Governor's Council for the New Jersey Chapter of the American College of Physicians (ACP). From 1999 through 2006, Dr. Kountz was funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the National Institute for the Study of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK) for a study assessing diabetes care in managed care settings.

Since he arrived at Jersey Shore University Medical Center in 2007, Dr. Kountz focused on advancing the various academic programs and increasing participation in the clinical research program. He also worked with various organizations in the community, including Neptune High School. With Neptune, he organized a "mini-medical school" lecture series each fall, which has attracted more than 500 students since its inception. In 2014, the New Jersey School Board Association awarded the lecture series its School Leader Award, which recognizes creative classroom and extracurricular programs in New Jersey's public schools.

Dr. Kountz brings to the School of Medicine his passion for community engagement, and a goal to recruit, retain and promote a diverse workforce of physicians that will serve the health care needs of New Jersey residents and the nation.

Sally Schwab, Ph.D., M.S.W.

For the past 30 years, Dr. Sally Schwab has worked with medical students, residents and faculty to develop the most effective relationships with their patients that will promote health, understanding and care. Sally Schwab, Ph.D., a medical educator and clinical social worker, has been on faculty at New York Medical College (NYMC) in Valhalla NY, for the past 17 years, where she has held many positions. Most recently she holds the title of Assistant Dean of Faculty Development and Associate Professor of Medicine. She helped create and direct the “Foundations of Clinical Medicine” course for first and second year medical students. Dr. Schwab took the lead in developing the communication skills program at NYMC where she teaches in the areas of interviewing and communication skills; psychosocial and behavioral science issues; end of life communication, clinical teaching skills and bioethics. Several years ago, Dr. Schwab created a course for 4th year students called “Learning to Teach” in which 4th year students focus on teaching clinical skills to underclassmen. In addition, she is the director of a new initiative called the “Concentration in Medical Education” for students who want a deeper understanding of medical education. A large part of her time has been dedicated to training faculty on how to improve their teaching skills and creating a safe learning environment. She runs workshops and provides feedback to faculty who want to improve their teaching. In addition, she is a trained facilitator in the Healer’s Art Course and introduced it to NYMC, where it has thrived.

Dr. Schwab is on numerous medical school committees including the Education and Curriculum and admissions committees and a member of The Faculty Affairs working group, which is focused on updating policies for faculty promotion and tenure. She is also a faculty advisor for the Gold Humanism Society. Dr. Schwab has received teaching excellence awards at NYMC and in 2003 was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha honor society.

Before coming to NYMC, Dr. Schwab worked at Montefiore Medical Center in Bronx, New York as a social worker in adolescent medicine. She then went on to co-direct the first year clinical skills course at Albert Einstein College of Medicine and then went on to be the director of behavioral sciences curriculum for the general internal medicine residents at St. Luke’s Hospital in NYC.

Dr. Schwab began her career as a clinical social worker after receiving her MSW at Columbia University in 1981 and later her Ph.D. at New York University School of Social Work. She is a trained family therapist and bereavement counselor. Dr. Schwab is extremely excited and proud to be a part of this dedicated team in building a new medical school.

Keith Metzger, Ph.D.

Dr. Metzger brings to the Hackensack Meridian School of Medicine at Seton Hall University over a decade of experience in the development and implementation of innovative medical education programs in both new and established institutions. Trained as an anatomist, he brings his love for the classroom and skill in curricular design to the School of Medicine.

Dr. Metzger most recently served as an Associate Professor of Anatomy & Structural Biology at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. As part of Einstein's medical education reform effort, he served on the Curricular Design Executive Committee and co-chaired the group charged with transforming the College's traditional pre-clinical curriculum into a more modern integrated one that incorporated best practices in educational theory. Prior to joining Einstein, Dr. Metzger was part of the founding team at the Hofstra Northwell School of Medicine. There, he directed the development of a major portion of the pre-clinical curriculum, recruiting, managing, and leading interdisciplinary design teams to create inaugural courses.

Dr. Metzger has been actively involved with a number of preliminary, provisional, and full Liaison Commission on Medical Education (LCME) survey visits at multiple institutions. He has also served and led educational and administrative committees with the Associated Medical Schools of New York (AMSNY), American Association of Anatomists (AAA), and the American Association of Medical Colleges (AAMC).

In addition to his teaching and administrative experience, Dr. Metzger maintains an active research program in both medical education research as well as the functional morphology (form-function relationship) and biomechanics of vertebrates.

Dr. Metzger received his B.A. (Anthropology, Biology) from the University of California, Santa Cruz, his Ph.D. from Stony Brook University, and was a postdoctoral fellow at Brown University.

Michael Giuliano M.D., M.Ed., M.H.P.E., M.A.

Dr. Michael Giuliano will be joining the School of Medicine from his current position as Director of Neonatology at Hackensack University Medical Center (HUMC) and Associate Professor of Pediatrics at New Jersey Medical School in Newark. He brings over 30 years of medical educational experience to the new school of medicine. He will be continuing his clinical and teaching roles at HUMC along with his involvement in the Academic Affairs & Ethics Committees, and his research interests.

Dr. Giuliano has served as the Director of Neonatology at HUMC over the past 11 years, dramatically expanding the educational, quality improvement and clinical programs in the NICU. Under his leadership the NICU doubled its clinical census and developed nine permanent continuous quality improvement teams. Dr. Giuliano has been instrumental in making HUMC a leader in the formation of a New Jersey State wide NICU Collaborative and is currently the New Jersey State representative to the National Vermont Oxford Neonatal Network Collaborative. The NICU has also become a center of medical education, developing new programs for rotating third year medical students, APN students and Neonatal Fellows from Robert Wood Johnson.

Dr. Giuliano received his BS degree summa cum laude from SUNY Albany and his MD from SUNY Downstate. He spent the next thirteen years in the Cornell system as a pediatric resident, neonatal fellow, founding Director of Neonatology at Englewood Hospital and then the Vice Chair of Pediatrics at Lenox Hill Hospital. He has directed site clerkships and residency programs throughout his career. Dr. Giuliano continued his formal education, receiving a Masters in Elementary Education at St. Peters College in 2000 and a Masters in Health Professional Education at the University of Illinois at Chicago in 2008. Ever the student, he recently completed his Masters in Theology right here at Seton Hall University in 2016.

Dr. Giuliano has research interests in the neonatal immune systems response to infection but his main focus has been medical education. He has developed an embedded model of "resident as teacher" program that has been utilized in a number of institutions. He has also developed a novel third year clerkship curriculum for students rotating in the NICU. As an active member of the Council on Medical Student Education in Pediatrics (COMSEP) since 1997, he has played an active role in revising the national pediatric clerkship curriculum in 2000 and 2005. His current work is focused on developing prospective tools to measure diagnostic errors and developing methods to teach diagnostic reason.

His previous work as an Assistant Dean for Resident Development at SUNY Downstate from 2006-2011, coupled with his experience with curriculum reform at three different medical schools, puts Dr. Giuliano in an ideal position to contribute to the development of the new medical school.

Dr. Giuliano also brings a unique perspective to the development of the new Catholic Medical School as a recently ordained permanent Deacon in the Catholic Church. In reflecting on his new position, Dr. Giuliano noted, "Having a chance to be part of the formation of this new Catholic medical school brings together the two great passions of my life into a project centered on serving others and making a real difference in the lives of our students and the communities we will serve. Who could ask for anything more."

Gregory T. Simonian, M.D.

Dr. Gregory Simonian, Associate Professor of Surgery at Hackensack Meridian School of Medicine at Seton Hall University, has been chairman of the admissions planning committee since June 2016.

Dr. Simonian is currently the Executive Vice Chairman and Chief of Operations for the Heart and Vascular Hospital at Hackensack University Medical Center. Prior to joining the School of Medicine he served as the president of the medical staff and chairman of the Medical Executive Committee at HackensackUMC. He has served as the Chief of Endovascular Studies for 14 years and is currently the Chief of Vascular Surgery at Mountainside Hospital. He was previously the Chief of Vascular Surgery at Palisades Medical Center. Dr. Simonian has been selected for many years by physicians and nurses as a top vascular surgeon in New Jersey Monthly's annual list of "Top Doctors," and in 2016 he was recognized by Castle Connolly.

A board-certified vascular surgeon, Dr. Simonian founded the Division of Endovascular Studies at HackensackUMC and has fostered the growth of the division into one of the most successful and recognized in the region. His interests include minimally invasive approaches to complex vascular diseases, and he manages more than 60 clinical trials. His work has covered subjects ranging from the basic science arena - including gene expression at the molecular level - to technical vascular considerations and multidisciplinary program development in the treatment of vascular diseases.

Dr. Simonian, originally from Tenafly, N.J., completed medical school as well as his surgical residency and vascular surgery fellowship at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey and was invited into the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. A summa cum laude graduate and member of Phi Beta Kappa at the University of Richmond, Va., he has been the recipient of numerous honors and awards for accomplishments in academics and leadership.

Dr. Simonian has been a lecturer at many symposia, and he routinely presents at regional and national meetings. He has developed comprehensive teaching programs and dedicates his time to teaching medical students, residents and fellows. He was nominated by the medical students at the New Jersey Medical School for the Outstanding Teaching award and received the Outstanding Teaching Attending Award from the surgical residents.

Dr. Simonian is a member of the Board of Trustees of the QualCare Multiple Employer Welfare Association, and for the past five years he has served as the Chairman of the Board of the Hovnanian School in New Milford, N.J.

Laurie Sullivan, PhD

Dr. Sullivan has been committed to educating and supporting the professional caregiver, particularly physicians, for the past 30 years. During that time, she has worked with medical students, residents and faculty to ensure that they maintain their own wellbeing, while they focus on the wellbeing of others.

She began her career in medical education as Director of Physician Education and Training Services at Hazelden New York, a nationally known chemical dependency treatment facility. She trained primary care resident physicians throughout the New York City area in addiction medicine. Moreover, she raised $1m to develop and implement curricula to help faculty physicians integrate addiction medicine education into their residency programs. She moved on to New York Medical College in the Department of Family Medicine where she was an early proponent of educating medical students about communicating medical errors to patients. She served as Assistant Dean of Admissions at the medical school for several years before spending 10 years as the Director of Behavioral Medicine for the St. Joseph’s Family Medicine Residency Program in Yonkers, NY. In this role, she worked closely with residents to strengthen their resilience and ensure they wellbeing through providing regular support groups, retreats, and education on patient-centered care. As the Chair of the Clinical Competency Committee, Research and Recruitment Committees she ensured that the support for resident success was integrated into all aspects of the Program.

Prior to settling in medical education, Dr. Sullivan worked to support relief and development staff in conflict areas of the world. A student of occupational traumatic stress, she trained and supported the caregivers of refugees and displaced persons in collaboration with various UN agencies and NGOs. She began her career in social work with the Trauma Intervention Program of HHC, where she provided on-site, psycho-educational support for emergency response personnel.

Dr. Sullivan believes that supporting medical students in developing their own sense of wellbeing is an essential part of medical education today.

Ihor S. Sawczuk, M.D., FACS

Dr. Ihor SawczukAssistant Dean for Clinical Integration

A known subject leader, esteemed physician, and sought-after educator, Dr. Sawczuk has held various roles in healthcare. Dr. Sawczuk completed his urologic training at the Squier Urological Clinic of the New York-Presbyterian Hospital and his urologic oncologic training as a fellow of the National Cancer Institute in the Departments of Urology and Human Genetics of Columbia University. He attended the Medical College of Pennsylvania. 

He has been the recipient of numerous awards from prestigious academic and medical associations. He was the recipient of the Russell W. Lavengood Distinguished Service Award from the New York Section of the American Urological Association and was presented the prestigious Russell and Mary Hugh Scott Education Award by the American Foundation of Urologic Disease.  In 1996, the office of the First Lady, Hillary Rodham Clinton recognized him for his Chernobyl humanitarian efforts.   Dr. Sawczuk was recognized by Becker’s Hospital Review as one of the nation’s physician leaders of hospitals and health systems to know two years in a row.  

He was honored by the National Ethics Collection of Organizations as a recipient of the 2017 Ellis Island Medal of Honor.  An avid clinician, researcher and executive leader, he has authored/co-authored more than 250 abstracts, articles and book chapters. 

He has held various leadership positions including Chair of Urology, Executive Vice President and Chief Medical Officer. 

In 2016, Dr. Sawczuk became the first physician president of Hackensack University Medical Center and serves as Assistant Dean of Clinical Integration at The Hackensack Meridian School of Medicine at Seton Hall University.

Kenneth N. Sable, M.D., M.B.A., F.A.C.E.P.

Kenneth N. Sable, M.D., M.B.A., F.A.C.E.P., Assistant Dean for Integration for the Hackensack Meridian School of Medicine at Seton Hall University, is president of Jersey Shore University Medical Center and K. Hovnanian Children’s Hospital.  Both hospitals are part of the Hackensack Meridian Health Network.  Previously, Dr. Sable was Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer for Saint Peter’s Healthcare System in New Brunswick, and vice chairman for operations in the Department of Emergency Medicine at Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York.

Dr. Sable holds a Doctor of Medicine from Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School and completed an Emergency Medicine Residency Program at Cooper University Medical Center in Camden, New Jersey.  He holds a Master of Business Administration from the University of Massachusetts, Isenberg School of Management, and a Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering from the University of Pennsylvania.  He is a Fellow of the American College of Emergency Physicians (FACEP), Diplomat of the American Board of Emergency Medicine (ABEM), and a graduate of Maimonides Medical Center’s Physician Leadership and Development Program.  He has also received the Medical Service Award from Bikur Cholim.

Dr. Sable is the Chair of the New Jersey Hospital Association’s Teaching Hospital Constituency Group, and on the board of the NJHA’s HRET Committee.  He is also a Board Member of Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Monmouth and Middlesex Counties.
