Ivan Tornos
The Joseph A Unanue Latino Institute is proud to welcome a new member to its Advisory Council whose impact extends far beyond the titles he has earned. Ivan Tornos, Chairman of the Board, President and Chief Executive Officer of Zimmer Biomet, joins the Council with a distinguished professional background and an even more extraordinary personal presence.
Ivan is widely recognized as one of the most influential leaders in the global healthcare industry. With more than three decades of experience across medical devices, biotechnology, diagnostics and pharmaceuticals, he has served in senior executive roles at some of the world’s most respected organizations, including Becton, Dickinson and Company, C. R. Bard and Johnson & Johnson. His leadership at Zimmer Biomet since 2018, progressing from Group President of Orthopedics to Chief Operating Officer and ultimately to his current role as CEO and Chairman, reflects the breadth of his expertise.
Yet what truly sets Ivan apart is not just his resume, but the way he moves through the world. Those who follow his work, listen to his voice or observe his interactions quickly notice something remarkable: Ivan carries a unique ability to inspire hope in a way that spiritually and physically uplifts others. He leads with compassion, humility and a contagious optimism that has an undeniable effect on the people around him. It is a natural force of positivity that elevates a room when he enters and reminds others of what is possible, a sort of "Ivan energy".
His presence on the Advisory Council will bring not only strategic vision, but most importantly an emotional intelligence grounded in empathy, authenticity and hope. For students, community members and future leaders, Ivan represents the kind of role model who shows that true success is defined not solely by accomplishments, but by the impact one has on others.
