Extension Procedure for F1 Students

Policy: I-20 extensions are only permitted when students have continually maintained their status and have compelling academic or medical reasons. I-20 extensions are not permitted due to delays caused by:

• Academic probation/suspension 
• Adding a major/minor/concentration in your last semester 
• Lack of attendance or not submitting assignments

*Students in certificate programs are not eligible for an extension 

Important Information:

Procedure to Request an I-20 Extension:

1. Meet with OIP to discuss your request for an I-20 extension and obtain I-20 Extension Form
2. Meet with your academic advisor to discuss your request for an I-20 extension 
3. If your advisor approves your request, have him/her sign the I-20 Extension Form
4. Submit I-20 Extension Form to OIP with updated financial documents
