Asya Robinson Great MindsThe College of Human Development, Culture, and Media has produced yet another successful Pirate, the prolific scholar, Asya Robinson, M.A. '21. Robinson’s decision to attend Seton Hall was a prompt but transformative one — it was then that she was able to decipher what she wanted to take away from her graduate experience.

Robinson received her M.A. in Communication degree and now applies the invaluable knowledge received from the program in her first post-graduate role as marketing communications coordinator at the nationally ranked public accounting firm, Withum.
"At Seton Hall, it all happened for me. I was able to create an original study based on my world view, interest in politics and the intersections of various forms of communication," said Robinson alluding to her Master's Thesis, now published on Seton Hall’s e-repository. Efforts toward creating awareness on the intersections of diversity initiated in her study have since been continued in her present role. "Presently, I'm really focused on internal communication, exactly what I wanted to do my entire life, which is amazing. I am very lucky to be in this position focusing on inclusion and diversity, supporting their DEI efforts, running different company campaigns and creating a community within the company," Robinson noted.

Robinson's personal and professional development certainly was not limited to the classroom. While at the University, she served as a graduate assistant in the where she acquired additional exposure in the realms of digital media and communications. As a graduate assistant, she worked with the renowned Pirate-led radio station, WSOU 89.5 FM. In this role, Robinson also headed communication for the Dean's Task Force and created news stories for the College's website and newsletters.

During her studies, Robinson also worked closely with Professor of Communication Communication and the Arts Graduate Student Association (CAGSA). In Robinson’s reflection of her experiences in CAGSA, she noted, "One of my fondest memories was when we hosted a Halloween event after midterms which provided much need relaxation time with peers. Another meaningful event was a Christmas card drive where we created cards, in both English and Spanish and sent them to the Children’s Hospital." As she recounted the community feeling brought to her by her co-curricular involvement she also posited feelings of nostalgia from the aforenoted memories that helped to crown her experience as a Pirate.

In retrospect, now basking in her accomplishments, the alumna reflects on her journey at Seton Hall with a quote from the American Philosopher, Ted Nelson: "So in my uncertainty, I went to graduate school and there it all happened."
